No, it's not necessary. However, if you have an Intel computer (that is, Intel CPU), then you might get a little performance benefit by installing the Intel Rapid Storage Technology driver - but it's not necessary.

Hi windows95.

It would depend if you would be using SSD to install Windows on it or use it as cache device.

If you would be installing windows then it is better to have a backup image of windows and use SSD as boot drive and the SATA as storage drive.

If you would be using it as a cache drive then you would need to enable Intel Smart Response Technology software driver.

My advice you would be if you are looking for speed and less boot time then use SSD as boot drive and SATA drive for storage.

And, if you are looking for adding more storage then better go with USB or SATA drive only.
