SSD's already at 1TB

SSD's are already up to 1TB. Article here. Can't believe that already the prices are starting to drop for these and boy they are fast, forget about the WD VelociRaptor already comparable size and price

So far, the typical SSD has been smaller in capacity, such as the 120GB SSD launched by SanDisk on Friday. That SSD costs around £165.

I want one.

That's good to see they have come along so far so quickly, i can't beleive they are at 1TB already, I want one too!! The next step will be to incorporate the system RAM into the same device and then we can say goodbye to the page file and have even lower latency.

Great to see things with no moving parts replacing older stuff, pendrives replaced diskettes, now these SSD could replace harddrives, and if pendrives are cheaper and cheaper you could replace dvd drives with them , at least for the pc. The only moving part left would be the coolers, but i'm sure something will come up to get rid of that too.

Summary: The prospects of using thermoelectric coolers (TECs) as a means to enhance heat sink performance and extend the limits of air cooling for electronics has considerable appeal when one considers the alternatives of liquid cooling. Historical analyses of TECs for electronics cooling only considered "off-the-shelf" TECs, resulting in poor performance predictions and in many cases system performance that was better without the TEC. This poor performance has been taken as typical and hopes of improved performance tied only to new, more efficient bulk thermoelectric materials and future thin film thermoelectric material formats. This paper demonstrates the results possible when today's best bulk thermoelectric materials are utilized in optimum TEC designs eliminating the penalty imposed by using non-optimum "off-the-shelf TECs. These optimized TEC configurations can provide an effective negative thermal resistance while operating at high COP thereby extending the limits of traditional air cooling for electronics.

I'm using a 60 GB SSD (v2) now, but would like to use two or more SSD (v3) drives in RAID 0 if the prices are right by then.

It may go another direction all together. I dont know if you have heard about Memristors or not but their concept is intriguing. Instant boot capabilities. Obviously a lot of technology comes and goes but it could prove to be the next best thing.
The combination of Memristors and SSD sounds very nice. Now if we can just eliminate all the wires from the I/O plate.... oh wait, we're getting close. We just need a way to wirelessly power our components and transmit HD video without wires or lag.
