Hi all,

I'm encountering an issue that has me stumped. Every week or two i'll get an error from all my browsers (IE8, Firefox 3.6, Chrome 4) in Windows 7 x64 saying that Gmail's security certificate cannot be trusted:

Even if I click through the warnings I can't seem to login (very slow). And it's not just Gmail, the issue affects all sites that use https.

The wierd thing is, I'll try accessing Gmail (https) from Ubuntu 9.10 (I'm dual booting) and I won't get the error in Firefox 3.6 and access is just as speedy as usual. Also, if I access Gmail from my other laptop running XP SP3 there are also no warnings.

Does anyone have any idea what's going on?!

Thanks!!
Gareth

Check the date and time on your computer. Make sure they are correct, then try accessing those sites again.

Strange.. whenever i've seen this problem, its been because of faulty time settings.

In any case, certficates are site specific and this feature is meant to protect your security. In IE, you can also click on the bar to install the certificate.

You can get more info in the following threads.

SSL Certificate Not Trusted Error

Invalid or Expired Security Certificate? :: Free Tech Support :: Ask Dave Taylor!

Also, scan your computer with Malwarebytes antimalware (its free) to make sure its not malware at work.

yep,

very strange. time settings are ok, and no malware as I scan for that frequently (MalwareBytes). we'll see if it happens again, thanks for the advice :-)

Sounds like your trusted root ca list may have gotten corrupted or you are unable to see the CRL for the certs.

@ desslok

That may be true, but wouldn't that cause these errors to occur consistently? Mine only happen once every few weeks, for a few hours, then disappear!
