Stalker's custom PC desk

Hello people, as I announced in Show Us Your Rig, I'm plaining to make custom desk for my pc with parts inside. So, I'll open hew thread, and will post here.

I don't have SolidWorks installed, so the paper was here. What I'm planing to do is next:



The upside will be cuted with dimensions from the paper. That will be covered with plexiglass or glass. Inside will be led stripes, probably in red color.
The components I want to be divided in 2 parts, one for the mb and parts on it and the other one for the psu, hdd, ssd. The bottom one should be additionaly colled with 2x120mm coolers. Maybe CM JetFlow.


Someone to give me some advice for this project?

The OP isn't asking for a desktop wallpaper. He is wanting to build a computer into an actual desk.

This was an awesome project a few years ago....unfortunately the links to the photo's of the project are all dead, but there are some nice sketches upfront. I don't know if he ever finished it.

This is an interesting project being a cabinet maker by trade I have thought of it many times

Problem is plexiglass scratches easily
Real glass can be heavy and expensive to drill holes where you need them not to mention joining all the parts is very interesting

They have been assembling glass shower enclosures for years so there's a good example of joining corners/ attaching doors-drawers...

Logic tells me 3/8" glass would be as thin as I would use clear plate but it is outrageously priced and again some where you will be drilling a hole or 20 $$$
I believe possibly a combination of real and plexiglass might be the solution in outside scratches :/

I've pretty much came to the conclusion
Wood frame doors and glass panels would give the same effects without the same costs Here's my cherry desk that could of had glass panels/ and top

If I wanted to show off the pc I`d put a piece of real glass on the front side of the desk, not the top, that way everyone can see it

But then you`d loose the drawers

Thanks Brian it was made from a bunch of extra and about to be trashed 1-3/4" thick cherry doors I salvaged about 7-8 years ago

You can say that again (it's right up there with MDF). And it's almost as bad as redwood and walnut for allergies.

Maybe something along this lines, except I would route the glass top as an inset so it's perfectly level with desk's top.

Here's another great example among many no doubt. I'm still trying to find the all glass top epic build I remember watching. Keep in mind that upgrades and mod's later could prove to be a ultimate hassle but my hat's off to ya !
