When I booted up my Win 7 pro desktop yesterday I got a message that told me to please wait while windows is being configured. After 20 minutes the message remained. I did a power shutdown and rebooted but the message reappeared. Finally decided to open windows in safe mode and restore to an earlier date. Restoring to an earlier point resolved the issue but wondering what might have been responsible - would like to prevent this from reoccurring if possible.

I run latest versions of the free CCleaner and Advanced SystemCare weekly and have Comcast's Norton Security Suite

could one of these be too aggressive?

Any insights would be appreciated,

Mary

Hi FDM,

When I booted up my Win 7 pro desktop yesterday I got a message that told me to please wait while windows is being configured. After 20 minutes the message remained. It has been known that Please wait while Windows is being configured . . . can take hours to complete. One of the worst things to do while it is configuring is to power off/down!

[1] Do you know what could have triggered the message?
[2] Have you installed any new hardware, software or updates prior to this happening?
[3] Have you tried running chkdsk - Check Disk?
[4] Have you tried running SFC - System File Checker?
[5] Are there any yellow triangles in Device Manager [Start => Control Panel => Device Manager => Expand ALL nodes]?

I hope this helps!

Thank you for the response and insights Paul. CCLeaner, Malewarebytes and Advanced System Care were recently updated and Norton Security automatically updates from time to time without any notifications. I also temporarily plugged in a USB flexible light. Cannot think of any other software or hardware installations. Will run chkdsk and SFC. Found no yellow triangles in Device Manager when expanding all nodes.
Wondering what damage my frustrated, hasty power down created while PC was stalled in configure mode? Having restored to an earlier time can I presume that I will be confronted with the windows is being configured again in the near future?

Like you I am passionate about understanding numbers and fractals. Wish my cererbram was genetically better developed.

Hi FDM,

Will run chkdsk and SFC. Found no yellow triangles in Device Manager when expanding all nodes.

You can use my batch script to run SFC [and copy the CBS.log file to the desktop] from here => SFC [System File Checker] + Copy CBS.log:Forums and then upload the results using the tutorial at the bottom of the above link [Upload to SevenForums:].

I hope this helps!

Guess the use of the batch scripts is above my pay grade. I downloaded SFC [System File Checker] + Copy CBS.log When I open it I get a command-like window that says Echo is off. Below that is a command line . Unsure what needs to be typed into the command line?

Very strange!

If you right-click on the .bat file and click Run as administrator, does it work!

Again thanks for your patience and assistance.
Paul your suggestion worked - SFC [System File Checker] + Copy CBS.log batch script worked when run as administrator. - it gave me three options.

BTY when I go to C:\Windows\Logs\CBS I find three files: cbs.bld, CBS.log (2,807 KB won't open access denied) and CbsPersist.....cab opens in notepad size on disk 656KB but when I open a Zip file it shows 19,303,246? Wondering if it is possible to delete or remove these accumulated entries? So far not successful. Any suggestions.

Please run SFC_Extract_The_ERRORS_From_The_CBS_Log.bat from here => My Useful Batch Scripts and then upload the results using the tutorial at the bottom of the above link [Upload to SevenForums] and someone will look at it for you.

I hope this helps!

I know what the cause of that is and I will correct it!

Hi FDM,

Once you have run the above then . . .

Please run chkdsk_ALL_Parameters.bat from here => My Useful Batch Scripts and select option [3] chkdsk C: /R [repair mode].

I hope this helps!
