Solved Stand alone movie maker for W7 32 bit?

Hi,

My camera records in the MOV format. All I want in a movie editor is to:

1. Mark & cut both ends of the content I want to save.
2. Splice 2 or more pieces of content together & save.

That's it.


I'ts been suggested to me those who know to use Win Movie Maker. Did some searching and found lots of kerfuffle.


I'm using W7 32 bit pro and I only want a movie editor that will simply do what I mention in #1 & #2 above. And it can be something other that Win Movie maker as long as it's free.

Here's a few versions of Movie Maker you can try to run down. But I'd guess there must be something from some other vendor that can handle MOV. I don't know if Movie Maker can as I never used MOV.

Not sure if all run on 32 bit, but at least one does because I used to use it.

But--they are free and standalone.

Microsoft Moviemaker 2.6; this is an MSI file (MM26_EMU.msi). I know this works on some versions of Win 7. I'm guessing it was at one time a download available from Microsoft.

Microsoft Moviemaker 6. If you have access to a Vista installation, I think you can copy this directly from the Program Files directory. Nearly positive this works OK on 32 bit Win 7, but maybe not 64 bit. You would have to re-register some DLL files.

I think there is another version of Moviemaker 6 ("wmm6") that will work on both 32 bit and 64 bit Win 7.

Other than the clue on a Vista installation I mentioned, I don't know where these can be found.

Frankly, I'd Google for info on a free simple editor for MOV files---but maybe you ran into a dead end on that. I have no idea if Moviemaker works with MOV, but you seem to think it does and you may be right.

Thanks for all your great tips. Checked them out, MM26_ENU.msi was the only one that would install on W7 32 bit. It would not acceprt .mov, had to convert to .avi before it would even load the file. Once loaded it was so kludgy I just stopped. Content was not worth the time to explore more.

I really have no need to work with video files even though I'm an avid photographer and have been on the net since 1994. Still shots work for me. However I can see where videos would be nice but the files are very large and suck up a lot of bandwidth. Anyway, my videos are not cool or trendy.
