Solved Standard VGA Graphics Adapter

Sorry I'm not that good with computers but here goes.

My Computer was working fine until it stopped working then i had to reinstall windos 7. Everything was working fine before but now my graphics adapter is Standard VGA Graphics adapter. Please help!!!

Model: Alienware m15x
OS: Windows 7 Professional x64
And i'm not sure about my graphics card. I downloaded Speccy and all it said was
Graphics: Generic PnP Monitor (1152x864@1Hz)
16MB Standard VGA Graphics Adapter (Dell)

support.dell.com doesn't list any Windows 8 drivers for that laptop.

That's probably not a problem. The Win7 drivers should be OK. (You may receive newer drivers from Windows Update, once the graphics adapter is recognized.)

Your service tag may be helpful in displaying your exact hardware configuration.

LATER: oops. Somehow I mentally mis-registered OffSuit27 as having upgraded to Win8.

I'll stick with my recommendation to use the service tag. I hope that it helps, because it looks like that Alienware model had at least a couple of graphics options.

Why would he want Windows 8 drivers? He re-installed Windows 7 and the drivers are now probably the default drivers.

Download and install updated drivers from Dell.

Yes as Alienware is owned by Dell the manufacturer, they may have developed custom drivers for the GPU. By using the Dell website you will get exactly what drivers you need, just use your Service Tag.

The webpage shout have had a description for what version of the drivers they are.
can you post that information. If they are for the same graphics card then download the one that was published latest.

Once i click on display adapters, it just shows the Standard VGA Graphics Adapter

Well I ended up looking through the dell support site:
http://www.dell.com/support/drivers/us/en/19/Product/alienware-m15x
Click under video, then download: n-vidia driver, GeForce GT 240M
