Stange login behavior for Admin

Have a domain system that is set via Group Policy to have the domain set for the default "log in to" option. Works well on all machines but one. When typing in "Administrator" in the "Log me in to:" field, I get as far as "Administrat" and when I type the "o" in Administrator it automatically switches the "Log me in to" from the set default doamin name to the Local PC name. Wierd.

Assume it has something to do with it recognizing the user Administrator and guessing wrongly that I must want Local access.

So my only option is to manually type the domain name in username field "domain\uAdminsitrator". Any thoguhts?

I'm hoping someone posts and responds to this with a solution, but I'm doubt there is one. In our experience, W7 always scans the local accounts before going to the domain to look for accounts, meaning it'll probably always do this.

I could have sword that the others never do that. Maybe Im wrong. Will double check. I wish they would allow an option to go back to elegant simplicty of the XP login screen for local and domain.

All of the Windows 7 machines on my network have to be logged in the same way (Domain\UserName) It's annoying, and I've yet to find a way around it either. Perhaps as 7 becomes more dominate in the corporate environment Microsoft will give us a nice login screen like we had with XP

Agreed. It's hardest for less savvy users. Especially when they make a typo in their username or password and the password login fails. Then it unfolds like this:

1. Make typo in login.
2. System tells them it was an incorrect username or password, but it ALSO then switches from the default domain you assigned via GPE back to the local machine after a failed login.
3. User does not notice this. So they re-enter their password, this time correctly, but since its now set for local so it fails access again because we dont set them for a local account.
4. Then they call complaining that thye hate the new system. :shock:

You can explain to them about the typing of "domainname\" but why do thye have to type anything? Thats more work. Drop down choice much easier for them to understand and rememebr. They arent programmers who are used to typing command prefixes first.
