I Love my PC!
The plot, casting, visual effects, everything was awesome. Even Leonard Nimoy plays in it. Something not to miss even for a non trekkie fan.

Wth? The plot was awful.

There might be some inconsistencies but perfection is hard to reach... At the end it always remains a question of taste.
IMDB has 43000 reviews @ 8.5/10 so far

...but it wasn't star trek.

You're right, it more looked like Finding Nemo ;)

Wth? The plot was awful. And the 'science' was like a bad episode of fringe. It was mildly entertaining (in an 'action movie' way), but it wasn't star trek.

eta; My Favorite Movie (Star Trek vs. Star Wars) - CollegeHumor Video

I agree...it wasn't Star Trek...

Then again, I am a die hard trekker and I had a hard time when they decided to rewrite over 60 years of trek history. I was hoping that they would time travel and correct everything. Bottomline: I didn't like it.

Nimoy needs to retire

The CGI and special effects were great, however. Its 'action movie' quality and the extensive marketing hype was enough to keep movie goers interested. That's why its doing so well in theatres.

I think this gives them a way to "reboot" Star Trek while refrencing the source. By the way, you should read the prequel comic as it helps to justify calling it Star Trek XI.

As a Star Trek movie, meh. As a Sci Fi movie, awesome. I still like Star Trek II the best.

The sequel movie for that part of the story is a few years away, I loved it and it leaves so many questions unanswered, all ready for the next movie ;)

OK maybe I a bit off base here, but a group of us went to see it in the theater. I was kinda prepared for a bad move, I usually hate prequels, however I did a full 180 about 1/2 way into the movie. I went from thinking it would suck, to it was good, right up to WOW. I honestly think it was one of the best movies yet.

Only movie I saw recently that I was hoping to be great but sucked was the new Fast and the Furious movie. On top of being a little bit Science Junkie, I am a huge car nut. If a movie has fast cars in it, I'll probably go and see it. Just wish they would bring back some of the realism to it.

The misses just left yesterday for Finland, so while the cat's away, the mouse will go buy a huge popcorn, coke and candy and see a mindlessly huge action movie. Star Trek it is... :)
