Verified the compatibility reg key is a fix for the colours.

can't verify it fixes the freezes as well.

it doesn't, actually it increases the rate of freezing.

I have another way. For the people who it doesn't work for you can try my way but be warned that it may disrupt other tasks you have running.

Step 1:

Create text file in wordpad an enter this text-
Code:
taskkill /f /IM explorer.exe
start explorer.exe

Step 2: Save the file as
Code:
RWE.batch
Make sure you include the .batch at the end.

Step 4: Put the RWE.batch file on your desktop (if not already)

Step 5: Double click the batch file (Windows Explorer Should restart)

Step 6: As soon as your desktop comes back start StarCraft really quick!

Step 7: Success! (maybe)

Also if your more advanced you can try and add the starcraft directory under "start explorer.exe so that you don't need to click it after.

Hope it works! It did for me.

I suppose you to mark this post as important

There is a working method to suppress freezing. It`s so simply - you should run WINAMP in compatible mode, not SC =)) Or, if hung happens with other programs, such as skype or miranda, run them in compatible. Maybe, other way to do it is to install progs on different HDD partition, not on C:. Test this)

How to make it work... With forcebindIP...

taskkill /f /IM explorer.exe
C:\"Windows"\"System32"\"ForceBindIP.exe" 5.53.83.6 "D:\Igre\Starcraft\StarCraft.exe"

So in general, i tried with the suggestions, but it wasn't prepared to work with the forcebindIP, and i put something off my own in it, and it works... No graphics problem, no freezing, all in all it just works...

The first command is to kill the win explorer, before you do that turn off all background progs...
The second is to start the SC with forcebindIP if you use hamachi...
the start of the code is the same, only with your own IP (Don't use my address ... :-) ) and the location off the game itself...

So, you take the code and place it in a .txt file, rename it to .bat and start...
But you need to turn ON the win explorer after manualy, just use task manager i go to File/New task and write in "explorer"...

If someone want's to join us the hamachi network is 12ms12 and the pass is 102030

oh wow, not more posting of this taskkill crap.

this works for know, and the code that i wrote works for those people who use hamachi and forcebindIP, and until someone does not make a permanent solution this is what i suggest you use...

so when you see a patch for Windows 7, then stop using this, but at this time, the problems are the background progs and win explorer, and the code that i wrote helps you start SC without explorer....

None of these fixes have fixed my problem.

I am on Windows 7 Pro 64 Bit and Starcraft randomly crashes my entire PC. Video, sound, task manager, everything is frozen and the only option I have is a hard reset.

I use to have Windows Vista and ran the same programs in the background, i.e. Winamp, Steam, IM programs, Bots, etc. and never had this issue. I even thought it was my RAM going bad so I ran diagnostics on my RAM and hard drives and they are healthy.

I fix computers for a living so I know what I am talking about when I say it is not a hardware issue. It is definitely a Windows 7 issue. You could view it as Windows 7 having an issue with a particular piece of my hardware however that is no excuse since there is no problem with my hardware in Vista and the only time my PC crashes is during Starcraft games while in Windows 7.

I have tried closing Winamp and all other programs, I don't even use anti-virus software and turned off everything in msconfig start up and services that are not microsoft related to bring it back to just the fresh install of Windows 7 running with Starcraft and STILL have this issue. All of my drivers are up to date as well as Direct X and have tried all the compatibility options and combinations.

I do use an HDTV for my monitor and use an HDMI cable, but in Vista this is no issue. When I use Chaoslauncher's w-mode I no longer have this issue in Windows 7 however it is quite annoying to have to use w-mode, I want full screen capabilities.

I have tried WinXP Mode in the Windows Virtual PC and this is just like running it in a windowed mode via Chaoslauncher because it is not full screen. (Also to those with Direct Draw Errors, while you have the Virtual PC in a window mode and not maximized you can select Tools > Disable Desktop Integration and you will stop getting that error however for me Starcraft still is not Full Screen.)

I have tried literally everything in this thread and I am very annoyed at those posting with useless BS that causes me to have to read through worthless trollcrap *cough squall leonhart cough* and others that feed his trolling ass. Please just shut the F up if you have nothing USEFUL and RELATED to this topic of STARCRAFT CRASHING IN WINDOWS 7 thank you so much for your understanding.

Moving on, the only true fix I see for this problem is to have a dual boot option of Windows Vista or XP and just log into those Operating Systems when one wants to play Starcraft. (Installing a Vista or XP as a second operating system.) This is obviously a huge pain in the ass and is unacceptable. I believe we should as a community bring this and issues like it (other older gaming software that crashes in W7) to the attention of Microsoft possibly on their forums and post there like signing a petition or something of the like. Thoughts on this issue? If there is already a thread like this on Microsoft's website please post the link here. Thank you again for everyone who is genuinely working towards a solution and not posting useless trollcrap to increase their post count.

you are right in what you say, as I have the exact same issue, however how your post is contributing I don't really understand, and instead of bashing squall leonhart, who has had quite a few good pointers I don't understand? I mean, the people who write "oh yeah this and that fixes it", without even knowing what they're talking about are annoying. I mean, if you write about a very complicated problem, and people suggest solutions, that even a half ape could think of, it's pretty insulting, so I understand the need to sometimes respond in harsher words? :)

anyway, windows 7 is still not perfect. I switched hardware and now everything works, except when I play quakelive, which causes my computer to freeze. (incidentally this did never happen with my old hardware.) I now use a core i7-940, 6GB ddr-3 1333MHZ and a new asus motherboard with an x58 chipset. I used to have an amd x2 6000+, 4GB DDR2 and an asus m2n-sli deluxe before, where the ONLY problem was with starcraft. no other game froze. and now no other game (I can play crysis, call of duty, gta IV etc. for hours without any freeze) freezes my pc except quakelive ... this is quite annoying, and I hope the MS guys get off their asses and fix this asap ... I doubt it though.

Forces a DDraw compatibility state, from what i've seen it forces a GDI Enumeration fix.
