Hi
Trying to play Half Life 2 Episode One, I get as far as the main menu and my battery backup starts to beep, (just as if I've lost power and running on battery only) if I don't quit the game the computer will soon die as the power from the battery backup has ran out. If I exit the game the beeping stops and all is normal.

WOW... that is a first for me< i wouldn't even know how to google that one.

Have you patched the game?

Have you updated the Audio & Video drivers to the latest version correctly?

Will this fix your issue? I don't know but its a start

Audio and video drivers are up to date, tried running HL2 in compatibility mode, still the same. When starting HL2 the game automatically connects to Steam and any updates are done before it'll allow the game to continue.

Ok, last but perhaps not least... have you tried switching your Battery? it would be a 5 dollar test, perhaps idiotic perhaps not... you will waste more time than money but like I said before, I have never seen this issue before.

So you're running on Power at the same time?

In the meantime, simply remove the battery to see if it duplicates the problem.

Do you use any other graphically intensive games?

Sounds like yoer battery backup is too small for your PC PSU. Check the watts on both. Should be at least the same or larger watt rateing on the backup.
