Please geeks, tell me what to do!

I tried to search something. Clicked Orb, started typing. As soon as I enter the first letter, Explorer crashes. Happens now every time, so search is at the moment useless.

Here`s problem signature:

To make this issue more bizarr, I noticed that if I type very fast, Explorer wont crash and I can see my search results. Also this every time, I mean typing very fast no crash, typing i.e. one letter crashes every time.

I am not so fast to type, so I really need help.

Kari

EDIT: I just noticed I can still search using search-field in any open Explorer-window, so my indexing should be OK. But like I said, if I try Start Menu > Search, Explorer crashes every time. Weird!

MSE, Microsoft Security Essentials.

Can you stop that service and test again?

BEX64 error seems to be related to DEP, and virusscanners can have negative effect on it, even MS own.

Good luck

Funny and weird. I stopped MSE and tried, it works. No crash. I start MSE and try, crash. Can not be true that I should make a choice: either use virus protection and not be able to search, or without protection but able to search.

This is really interesting!

As usual my genesis friend is correct abt BEX64 being related to DEP and buffer overflow. there is a description on technet but no solution. Im wondering what event viewer app, and system have abt errors.

I´ll play with this issue tonight, wife is away and whisky stock full. Please guys, do not misunderstand this but honestly I kind of like this type of problems. Nothing is so refreshing to your brain than a real problem and hunting for a solution!

It`s not so big deal now when I know I can do all my searches normally from Exlorer-windows search box. It`s just a bit annoying.

OK, at least I now know the behavior of this issue. But it is really, really weird!

If I boot MSE being on and active, I get this issue. If I turn MSE off and reboot, then turn MSE on only after Win7 has stopped starting the services, everything works.

So my personal workaround is now to remember to turn MSE always off before shutting down, and remember to turn it on after booting.

Somebody there knows how to change the order services are started? It looks I could fix this if MSE were the last service to start. Really weird!

Isn't finding a security suite that doesn't crash your system a better way to go?
I know. You like solving problems. :D but hey, you have solved it.

But you don't want to be turning it on and off every time, do you?

If you do want to keep it. Maybe use the schedule service to auto start and stop it before shutdown and after boot.

I have fixed a problem with my soundcard like that.

When the control software of the card was on, and my system went to standby, it would crash on wakeup.

So I scheduled a "before standby" event to exit the control suite before standby.
And made another one after wake up to start the suite again.

works perfectly.

Maybe an option for you?

I found it!

Some time ago I had problems with my VoIP software. I posted an issue which is still bothering me.

A couple of hours ago I decided to uninstall this VoIP application. Forgot to turn MSE off when I rebooted after uninstall, the workaround I told here earlier. After reboot I went normally to Start > Search to check that uninstall had deleted all files and folders, and didn`t really first notice that EXPLORER DIDN`T CRASH. It took some time to realize that, and then I started to play:

I reinstalled PhonerLite, this VoIP application, and true: every time I tried to use search Explorer crashed. I uninstalled PhonerLite, did a search or two and Explorer did not crash.

I´ve now repeated this procedure about six or seven times. When PhonerLite is installed, Explorer crashes every time I try START > SEARCH. Explorer does never crash when searching whenever PhonerLite is not installed, or when the service is manually stopped.

I still think this is weird, and I have to find a new VoIP softphone, but at least my Explorer doesn`t crash anymore.

Thanks for interest, geeks.

not that weird.

MSE and Voip want something at the same time.
DEP steps in and is preventing either of them to be executed.
But the requests keep on running until the buffers overflow.

Plain and simple software conflict. lol

but glad you figured it out to be the Voip, MSE combination.

great work!

I still think it is a bit weird. This fix was a pure accident; I had not in a million years sought the problem from this VoIP / MSE combo.
