Start Up Failure

Hi

If anyone can help I would be grateful.

I purchased Windows 7 as a download and stored it on my PC (then running XP). I then peformed a clean install of Windows 7 on the PC replacing XP and for a while (couple of days) the machine booted up OK. Last night I downloaded iTunes and installed that and the PC seemed OK. I then attached an external hard drive and the whole thing fell apart. I have now removed all external devices from the PC and the boot up goes to the welcome screen where I get the following message:

'C:\Windows\System32\EXPLORERFRAME.dll is either not designed to run on Windows or contains an eror. Try installing the program again using the original installation disc or contact the software vendor.'

The welcome screen then disappears and i get a totally empty screen with a cursor.

I have tried the F8 options including restoring to prior to the iTunes installation but that doesn't help

I now have a catch 22 as (I assume) the software is on my hard disk but I can't access it because the PC isn't starting up.

This message is being posted fom my second (Vista) PC

Anybody have any suggestions.

I am not technically competent and don't know how to use the command prompt

Hi David,

welcome to SevenForums :)

The best thing I can suggest here is to go into the command prompt from boot, (which I assume you have access to from your original post), and run the following command "sfc /scannow" (no Quotes), this will hopefully revert the damaged system file to the original state.

If you do not feel confident to do this yourself then you could try a repair install (assuming you have a disk) or you may need to contact a local IT proffessional
