yesterday i went to start my pc up and it would get to the windows logo, looked like it was going to the desktop top but then just beep once and restart, it did this several times.
i then started it on my gaming drive and went into doing a disc check of all my drives, it went on forever doing 'replacing invalid security id with default id from file'
i ended up leaving it over night.
this morning i tried starting up in the normal drive and it did the same thing disc check and started doing the 'replacing invalid security id with default id from file' again so ive left it and went to work, now when i try booting into it it seems to start but instead of the desktop i get a black screen with the cursor arrow that i can move around.
i can startup my gaming drive with no problems, when i try have a look at the other hard drive that wont boot properly it says its not accessible access denied

any solutions? id be surprised if the HDD has died on me its a 150 gb WD Velociraptor and less than 2 years old

thanks for any help.WD VelociRaptor

thanks but not getting much joy from that, i know my pc is fine because i can boot up on my gaming hard drive no problems, its when i boot into my raptor i have the problem.
looks like im going to have to try a fresh install but would like to get stuff from it first but i keep getting D:\ is not accessible. access is denied.
is there a way of getting around this?

Just a shot in the dark, but you could always boot using a Linux live disc, and see if you can copy everything from the "dead" drive to something else, like your gaming drive or an external. I've saved loads of data by doing this in the past.
DistroWatch.com: Puppy Linux
This is the distro I use, it's small, nimble and loads the whole OS into RAM, so no waiting for the CD to spool up every five seconds.
