Start-up problem

Hi, I have an old pavillion hp (not really old, from 2007), and when I turn it on, it doesnt show anything, but just shows the black screen. It restarts itself several times, and each time on the 5th or so restart it loads the OS. HELP PLEASE!!!! I dont even want to turn it off thinking one time it wont come back on. Its running vista.
