Hi

Whenever I start Perfect Uninstaller my desktop immediately crashes. Taskbar & icons gone, Perfect Uninstaller still shows and works though.

This happened when i was using Vista as well-now upgraded to Windows 7 and has done so with many versions of Perfect Uninstaller.

If I close Perfect Uninstaller, press Ctrl/Alt/Del and restart explorer.exe as a new task, my desktop etc come back OK

I have repeatedly looked on the net for a fix and can find nothing.

Asking you guys to see if you can help me out here as to why it's happening and possibly a fix (other than stop using Perfect Uninstaller)

cheers

Welcome!

I believe we already know the answer to your problem, but I'm afraid you will not like the solution. It appears as if this is not a Windows problem, but rather a program issue.

You can try reinstalling the program, but I fear that since Perfect Uninstaller is causing the issue, it needs to go.

Have you considered any alternatives yet? I use the free version of Revo Uninstalller, and it works great for me.

Sorry I can't fix the problem. :(

Hi, Welcome to SF,

Well i check Perfect Uninstaller is not compatiable with Windows 7. Maybe you could try to Run under compatibility mode. Better go for REVO Uninstaller that will work great with Windows 7.

Hope this helps,
Captain

thanks for replying guys

tried running under compatibility mode for XP SP3 and still killed desktop

then ticked "disable desktop composition"
when Perfect Uninstaller started the screen went black and then came back immediately in Win7 basic color scheme
when PU is closed immediately reverts back to Aero

great!

knowing this tweak went searching and came across this

Desktop compositing, also known as Desktop Window Manager (DWM), controls the 3d effects in vista. Some programs do not yet work well with these effects enabled

Seems this was the issue i was having

Now fixed with this work-around

had the same problem running Vista
if this is not a unique issue with my PC and truely an incompatibility issue with Aero then the developers of PU need to sort it out
Vista and now Win7 have been around for some time now

thanks again
