Startup and Login Problems

I am having some major problems with my windows 7 desktop. Here is my build:

NZXT Technologies Source 210 Computer Case (Black)

My first problem is mainly being able to start my computer at all. About 2/3 the time I turn on my computer, one of two things will happen: either the startup screen will freeze and the text and windows logo will become disfigured with red lines surrounding them (I will attempt to post pictures for clarity), or the screen will go black.

In each of these cases, the computer does not start up, and I have to reboot it. After a few times I am able to get the computer started. This event occurs regardless of how I'm booting windows (normal, safe mode, startup repair, ect.) This, I believe, has always been a problem of mine I have never really attempted to fix, other than trying a system restore, which did nothing. Just today, another problem occurred. After I went through the first problem and I was able to boot my computer, after I tried to log on, I received an error message reading: “User Profile Service service failed the logon. User profile cannot be loaded.” I looked up this specific problem and said that the best thing to do is a system restore. Well I restarted my computer multiple times, as I had to bypass my first problem to even launch startup repair. After doing that, I did a system restore, and that gave me errors, saying that my system could NOT be restored. After bypassing the first problem again to start the computer normally, and try logging on again, I received the same error. At this point, I would really wish to just reinstall windows entirely and rid myself of these problems the relatively simple way. However, I do not believe there is a way to retrieve my product key from this specific install, and I don't believe I have any more to use. Therefore, if I can fix each of these problems, I would rather do that and not have to spend the money on a new product key. If anyone has any answers, they will be appreciated.

Follow these same steps for a Clean Reinstall - Factory OEM Windows 7
which include everything you need to get and keep a perfect install, the program to audit your installed Product Keys, latest Win7 installer for your licensed version if needed.

If you haven't done so yet you can also use the same disk or the System Repair Disk to run a few Startup Repairs.

If you want to post back a screenshot of Disk Management - Post a Screen Capture Image we may be able to spot the problem, or provide more ideas for resolving the problem.

Did you use the oldest System Restore point to get well before the problem started? The stall during Win7 boot animation is most often a driver failing to load.

Hey, thanks for the help, it seems like one of these will work. Right now I don't have the time to try these solutions (I have car issues I need to worry about first) but when I do, I will post back what happens. Thanks again!

I have not completely re-installed my operating system just yet, but I was finally able to restore my system so I could log in. Of coarse still, I have that first problem I mentioned. However, now I have a new problem which leads me to believe that there is something else wrong. While doing anything on my computer, surfing the internet or writing in word, sometimes it will randomly shut off, and eventually restarts itself. The whole computer doesn't shut off, the PSU and the fans continually run throughout this, but windows completely shuts off and the computer will restart itself. This leads me to believe that there might be something wrong with the hard drive, or its connection to the motherboard. What is a good stand-alone, boot-able utility that can check and see if the hard drive itself has problems? Do these problems together appear to point to a hard drive issue?

Test the HD with maker's HD Diagnostic
extended CD scan, followed by Disk Check.

Test your RAM - Test with Memtest86+
for 5-6 passes or overnight.

As it could be the crappy factory preinstall which is the worst install of Win7 one can have, I'd try running a boot disk like Peppermint3 - Create Live CD/DVD/USB To Use For Emergency Backup - Windows 7 Forums to see if issue persists. If not it means it is most likely hardware. YOu can also use Hirens or Ultimate Boot disk which have the above tests on them.

Thanks for the information, I attempted to put Ultimate Boot Disk onto a bootable flash drive and it did not work. Currently I was able to load up windows and am currently running a check disk, and I plan to later run a memory test as well. However, even if the hard drive was the issue, I don't think that would cause windows to just shut off instantly without prior warning, considering that Windows would still be booted in memory. That would lead me to believe the problem is not the hard drive or, at least, not just the hard drive. I am thinking it might actually be a memory, motherboard, or power supply issue. I'll see what the tests show. Thanks again for your help and patience.
