I have an acer laptop running Windows 7. I did a windows 7 update in the morning that afternoon I had problems re-starting the computer. Internet Explorer wasn't working saying page could not be displayed and Norton was playing up as well. I have completed a startup repair and got this error message;
Root Cause Found
Unknown bugcheck f4 Parameters = o x 3, oxfffffa8007efe230, 0 x fffffa8007efe510, 0 x fff800033d70do.

Repair Action: system files integrity check and repair.
Result failed. Error code = 0 x 45d.
Time taken - 1569027ms

I have now tried to start windows normally and it has taken about 20 mins so far and just a black screen.

Can anybody help please.

Hi and welcome to the Forum
See if you can boot into Safe Mode. If you can try a system restore to a point before the update took place!

newtonspinks, a 0xF4 bugcheck is usually attributed to failing storage hardware.
The fact that it coincides with a Windows update is odd but what you're describing is worrying.
I recommend you backup your data, you can follow this tutorial on a different PC then boot the USB
onto the laptop :: http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials/287439-emergency-kit-save-your-files-dead-os.html ::

Then you can test the HDD:

  1. Perform a Disk Check | Disk Check
  2. Then Post the results following | THIS METHOD
  3. Download SeaTools for Windows if you don't want to use a CD to test the HDD you can use YUMI – Multiboot USB Creator to create a bootable USB (instructions are found at the bottom of both pages).
  4. If SeaTools for Windows is unable to recognize your HDD visit HDDdiag and follow the instructions.

Being it's a laptop the temperature concern is always present boot into the BIOS and look for
PC Health something of that nature to give some estimate to the temperature.
:: BIOS Access Keys for Popular Motherboards (ASUS, MSI, GIGABYTE, Etc.) ::
