startup icons

Hi, I have start up programs that have no icons in the start up tray. Sometimes they are there eg. tivo, answers one click, etc. Sometimes on restart they appear again but not always. My sound icon is often there with a red cross on it but sound is OK. I only have to slide the slider up or down to get it clear. Why is this?
Also internet speed is sometimes very slow and I can't watch you Tube without it stopping and buffering. I tried Speedbit but had to uninstall as it didn't help at all. I hope someone can help me with these problems. Thanks

For your startup icons (that bottom-right section of the Taskbar is called the "Notification Area"), try one of these helpful links:

Fill in your hardware specs and is this a Windows 7 clean install or upgrade?
