[Startup Repair] 300 GB, how long?

Hello.

Windows 7 is refusing to boot. so I burned a Windows 7 Home Premium 64 bit iso to a DVD and started the Startup Repair. I started it at about 5 PM Chicago time yesterday. Its taking more than 24 hours. I know its supposed to be a long time but I didn't expect it to be THIS long. How long is it supposed to take on a 300 GB hard drive? And if it is not supposed to take 24 hours, how do I cancel it?

I'm not sure if this is the right forum to post in so, if neccesary, move this post to the right forum.

It should take minutes, not hours. The size of the data on the disk is irrelevant since it only addresses system files. Maybe you made a smal mistake getting it started. Here is the right way how to handle it: http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials/681-startup-repair.html

I can't launch system repair from the advanced boot options menu. It says my boot error and then goes to the Launch Startup Repair/Start Windows Normally screen.

You would not damage the HD. But you may screw up the OS. If you have restore points or images, you could always go back to those. But in any case - a 24 hour startup/repair is not right.

Accidentlally edited my last post. Anyways, I just booted from the DVD and now Startup Repair is repairing disk errors. I'll get back once its done.

Sounds like it's struggling with a failing HD. If it doesn't complete soon test the HD with the maker's HD Diagnostic extended CD scan followed by a full Disk Check.
