Hello,

My laptop specs:
Dell studio 1558 running Windows 7 Home premium (OEM preinstalled) 64-bit with SP1
Core i5 CPU with 4GB RAM
windows updates upto-date (enabled)
MS Sec Essentials upto-date - scanned 2 hrs before it was down.

Today my laptop suddenly switched OFF (by itself) and doesn't boot normally - Keeps going to startup repair infinite loop.

Tried:
startup repair - no luck
Booted with OEM win7 DVD and tried startup repair
Booted with OEM Win7 DVD and tried system restore
Booted with OEM Win7 DVD and tried registry hives recovery ( http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials/139576-startup-repair-infinite-loop-recovery.html )

but none of them worked.

Please advise.

Thanks
Prvn

Try pressing F8 as you boot your computer and select "Disable automatic restart upon System failure" on the assumption it may be blue screening then rebooting before you get the chance to read the error message.

Also, the fact the computer shutdown without any input from yourself suggests a corrupted update may be the culprit.

Well, finally I managed to fix it BUT it's not final!!

What i did:

1. ran chkdsk c:/c/f/r & sfc /scannow (no luck)
2. scanned with Kaspersky/bitdefender rescue disks (no luck)
3. booted with Win7 DVD and ran bootrec /fixmbr and bootrec /fixboot at cmd prompt (IT WORKED!!)

It ran for 3 days without a problem but again yesterday (19:50) it simply rebooted and going system repair continuously. I again fixed same way but got same problem again today (19:59). Again i had to fix it in that way.

Today, I did
- I did UNCHECK the "Automatically restart" in startup&recovery options.
- I also did both Rescue disk virus scan and virus removal tool run (no virus found by kaspersky)

Interestingly I got this problem only on those days I used HDMI port (to connect it to HDTV).

Please advise,
Thanks

You latest dump file points to WMDrive.sys and in our driver reference guide this would be associated with a program called WinMount if your using this program please uninstall it. If your not using it then it suggest that you have cloaked malware on your system, meaning that it is going to be hard to find. Download the Norton Power Eraser is has good success in eliminating these types of threats. If you still have shutdowns and if norton power eraser doesn't find anything then will try another avenue.

Drivers that need to be updated:

Video Drivers from ATI but first we need to complete uninstall the ati system driver with this little program called Driver Sweeper: http://phyxion.net/Driver-Sweeper/Driver-Sweeper/Version-3-1-0/Installer.html Now once downloaded plese install and boot into safe mode, from there start the program and select the AMD check box, then click analyze then clean and reboot back into normal mode. Everything is going to be huge now because no drivers are present. Then go to ATI: AMD Graphics Drivers & Software and put the information in the drop down boxes that correspond to your card and OS. Please when you find the correct one DO NOT install the catalyst suite only download the driver and install it. The tabs should have one that says Individual Packages or something to that effect. Just download the driver and install it.

Realtek audio drivers: Realtek

Go here to get the rest of all the drivers you need and update them all including the bios if you know how: http://support.dell.com/support/dow...&osl=en&SystemID=STUDIO1558&catid=-1&impid=-1
