Startup Repair not working??

6 month old computer, everything worked flawlessly. Yesterday the touchpad mouse wouldn't work in Windows. It worked when I needed it to input the password to unlock the system, but not in Windows. So I rebooted & same thing. I then rebooted in safe mode & ran Spybot. My computer froze so I took out the battery & restarted it. Black screen come up & said Windows did not start properly & they recommended Startup Repair or run Windows. Regardless of which I do, the startup repair starts & just keeps going. It doesn't actually do anything. The graphic to show it's working keeps running but nothing is actually being done. At one point it said all problems are fixed & rebooted right back to the startup repair. I can't get around it at all, & even tried to run the backup disks, but it won't get past the Startup repair. Any & all suggestions are GREATLY appreciated.

Tried F8 & everything. Even putting the backup DVD in. I would restore to factory settings if I thought it would fix it!!

Do you need to copy data off the HD? Do it now using your Win7 DVD Repair console or Repair CD: http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials/93347-copy-paste-windows-recovery-console.html
Download Repair CD here.

Next boot the Repair CD, click through to Recovery Tools list to run Startup Repair up to 3 separate times from disk.

If this fails, boot back in to mark Win7 active using DISKPART: http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials/71432-partition-mark-active.html then run Startup Repair again x3.

If this fails post back listings from Diskpart "Detail Disk" and "detail partition" for Win7 HD and part.

Do you have access to borrow/copy a Win7 install DVD for your version (all versions can be unlocked in any WIn7 installer if neccesary) to do a clean install without factory bloatware, or do you prefer running Recovery if necessary and it will run? Do you have the Recov disks made?

I have the backup DVDs I burned when I first purchased the computer, but not the actual Window 7 stand alone disk. I cannot do anything on my computer is the problem. It literally goes from Black screen that tells me to Startup Repair or Run Windows normally. Both go straight to Startup Repair. Startup Repair does nothing. Just keeps running, I can't get to any form of reboot or anything besides the startup repair. I have tired F8, F10, & putting the backup DVD in at startup hoping to just reinstall the whole thing & call it a day. I'm not getting any error codes or anything. Just says "Attempting Repairs" & nothing happens.

It is auto-starting Startup Repair after BIOS post. You need to interrupt that by booting the DVD or Repair CD. When you get the prompt to press any key to boot disk, tap Enter repeatedly.

If there is no prompt to boot disk, Enter BIOS setup to set CD/DVD drive(s) to boot before HD, or tap the key given on first boot screen for Boot Menu to boot disk manually.

http://pcsupport.about.com/od/tipstricks/ht/bootcddvd.htm

If this fails, try tapping F8 at boot to see if you can boot into Safe Mode, or if the Repair console is listed at the top of your Advanced Boot Tools list.

You may not be tapping the F keys vigorously, often or soon enough.

YOU ARE ABSOLUTELY AMAZING!!! THANK YOU SOOOO MUCH for all your help!! I was able to change the BIOS settings to startup the DVD drive instead of the harddrive first. I have my thesis for my final college course due on Friday, of course I have it on 3 different zip drives so that's not an issue, but trying to go to other people's houses with a 16month old is not the easiest!! I now have a working computer again!! THANKS!! :)

You have a Dell - so you can off the discs from within windows.

If you can't get into windows - then you can download the repair disc.

Choose the correct bit version - win7 repair discs also works on Vista.
