Having ocasional problems where the pc halts on boot screen. Usually if i reboot it will continue and load windows normally.

Could someone tell me if it's possible to use a upgrade disk in order to do a startup repair.

Running windows 7 64bit on HP media centre

Should work as an "upgrade" disk is a normal installation disk.

Hello and Welcome !

If it's OEM provider disk they might customize it. You could create a disk if you can get into Windows http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials/2083-system-repair-disc-create.html find more info about Startup Repair http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials/681-startup-repair.html

Thanks for your response the pc was vista, so bought the upgrade disk,. I have looked at the tutorials, but wasn't sure that the upgrade disk would let you do the repair. If it does then i assume the proceedure for the startup repair will be the same as the tutorials ?

I know there may be several reasons why there is a halt at the bootup screen, so i guess this is step one to solve my ocasional problem.

When you say "it halts on boot screen" do you mean the windows splash or the BIOS post screen? If it's stuck on the windows splash screen then ok - do what you're doing.
