Startup repair ??

I'm having troubble booting into my Windows 7. It hangs where the green squares goes from left to right with no error. Then I read this in "news" forum:

Startup Repair. While this useful tool did debut with Windows Vista, it wasn't installed on PCs by default. In Windows 7, it is installed into the OS partition automatically and appears automatically when the system can't boot properly, fixing any problems and returning the system to its normal booting state.

I can't get this to kick in. Even in safe mode it hangs during boot. It is build 7129 btw. Do I have to do something, or should it be "automatic" as stated above?

Hello Burgurne,

You can manually run Startup Repair from your Windows 7 installation DVD to see if it may help. If not, then you might see if doing a System Restore at boot using a restore point before you had this problem may be able to fix it.

Have you by chance installed a watermark removal crack? This may explain the fact you have the Vista startup bars & not the Windows 7 glowing logo. You could try booting the 7 DVD then selecting 'Repair Options' and entering command prompt.

From there, type sfc /scannow, this will scan all system files for errors & replace any affected files. Once done just close everything & restart your system.

It worked to boot from the USB-key (never got to burning a DVD with Windows 7) with the Windows 7 installation. After selecting language, I just selected the point "Repair installation" (or something simalar). It took under a minute, and then it rebooted itself, and everything seems to be in order.

No, I have not installed a watermark removal. I have never seen the glowing Win7 at boot in x64, only the very first attemp i did with the official RC in x86 did that.
Every build in x64 makes these green squares running from left to right (only once, now I'm booting from my SSD ). Not even at first boot on install do I see the glowing logo. Should it be in x64 also?
Watermark remover, I'm not sure what it should do?? Could it be, that it is in the image I downloaded allready? The hash-numbers match these numbers given in this forum in another thread.

Did you do a upgrade from Vista to Windows 7, or used a boot file repair program like EasyBCD?

If you did a clean install with the Windows RC (7100) build, then you should have the Windows 7 boot screen instead of the green bar Vista one.

No, I have never had Vista. At first I did a clean install with RC build 7100 x86, and at that time I saw the glowing logo, but both of my x64 installations (7100 x64 and 7127 x64) shows the green squares. All is done clean installs, no tweaks, and no watermark remover, no unofficial themes. As written even on the very first reboot during installation the green squares shows up.

The iso I installed from is this:
7127.0.090507-1820_x64fre_client_en-us_Retail_Ultimate-GRMCULXFRER_EN_DVD.iso
on 3.478.069.248 bytes.

Are you sure the glowing part should show up in x64 installs?

You may have a modified build or something. I'm running the 64-bit Windows 7, and all the builds I have tried had the glowing boot screen. I would say try a newer build number (ex: 7229) to see how it works for you then.

+1, there are so many builds out there that the chance of downloading a modded build can be quite high. As Brink suggests you could download 7229 as that's the last genuine ISO that's about that activates

If Windows 7 determines that the graphics support is low-performance, it gives the Vista-style moving green bar. I get this on my netbook, for example. It might also key on resolution, I'm not sure what specifically it is looking for.

I'm too have the green squares on boot in build 7229 and 7264. Could it has something to do about I have a widescreen monitor? 1920*1200.
Low graphics performance? I don't think so, as I have a Nvidia GTX260 ... or maybe this card HAS low performance until the driver is loaded?

Now I'm totally confused

I burned 7264 x86 (link recieved in my PM in this forum). When installing from this DVD my PC still gives me green squares (vista style), but when installing FROM THE SAME DVD on wifes laptop it gives the Windows 7 flag :shock: on boot.

What is wrong with my PC? I have tried to change tne monitor to an old 19" CRT, green squares.

Why has Microsoft build in 2 different bootscreens?

PS: I have tried 7600, it's the same on the PC (wrong bootscreen) and on laptop (right bootscreen).
