I'm dual booting Vista Ultimate(32bit) and Windows 7(64bit) build 7100, I'm trying to figure out how to set a static ip address in Win 7.

In Ultimate i just right clicked on network connection>>>>properties..and set the static ip there. but when i right click on the Network in Win 7 nothing happens.

I need to set a static ip because i connect to a Beyonwiz PVR through a D-Link DWL-G810 (thats connected to the PVR), it works O.K. in Vista, but not in Win 7 :(

EDIT: just looked at post below (Sleep problems) and it showed how to get to the IPv4, set a static ip but my PVR still doesn;t see Win 7.

cheers

Right click Network icon in the task tray. If it is not displayed, right click on the triangle in the task tray and right network icon and select Network Sharing. Then right click on Local Area Connection. Select properties and IPV4 and properties. You will then have the familiar setup for static IP.

Hi Jeepers & Welcome to the Forum,

If you were successful with setting a static IP, but are still having problems, try temporally disabling the firewall and test. If it now allows the connection, you'll have to create an exception / rule in the firewall.

I disabled the Firewall, but my Beyonwiz PVR still will not see my Win 7, Funny thing is that i have a program called WizFX that transfers stuff from the Beyonwiz to my PC, and that works O.K.

I have my Netgear DG834G connected to my PC and a D-Link DWL-G810 connected to my Beyonwiz used as an Access Point.

cheers

Be sure that you do not have DHCP turned on in both routers. This will cause issues when you double NAT.

Ensure that the IP addresses on both PCs has the same prefix. IE 192.168.1.xxx or 192.168.0.xxx.
