Steam blank display name...

When I paste odd characters like ™ in as my Steam name, it causes my display name to be blank (which is funny for multiplayer! :p)

What exactly causes that...?

Some fonts and characters are not built into steam's database, even characters in the character map program, remember the days of call of duty 1? Everyone was using different styles of characters and you couldn't read their names, I'm assuming this is one method to force people to use normal ASCII text characters
