Hey everyone,

My Steam icon (steampowered.com) shows up as a Counter-Strike Source icon and when right clicked on shows options for CSS instead of Steam. Is there a cleaning that needs to happen so that whatever got mixed up can be fixed?

Thanks.

Some people would call that a 'feature'. I'd just reinstall Steam if it bugs you that much.

Well I had the Steam icon AND the Counter-Strike Source icon both on the task bar and when I would click the Steam icon the "has programs running" highlight would transfer the the CSS icon.

Is there any way to clear what icons are registered with which programs? because even when I have just the steam icon on the taskbar and click it to start steam the css icon then pops up and is highlighted and the steam icon is not.

Hi, just joined these forums because I think I have found a (at least partial) solution and wanted to share it with you. My icon got changed today to that of Football Manager 2010 and I spent an hour checking different forums and google if anyone knew anything about it, but nothing. What fixed it for me was setting the taskbar icon to be read only. No idea yet if it will stay fixed forever.. but at least it got back to what it should be!

Also remember to manually change the shortcut to point to the steam.exe only and not -runapp or whatever it was if it changed it to that for you, and also change the icon to the correct one in the properties if it isn't already.

Hey guys, I have worked out how to fix this error :)

First of all, the icon that shows up on your task bar is basically a shortcut (If you right click on it, you can see for example if it shows the css icon (Will work with all other icons too), it will have Counter Strike Source above the "Pin this program to the taskbar"). It uses the icon from the shortcut that is in that menu so all you have to do is delete it from the desktop and then it should go back to your normal Steam icon. To get the icon back onto your desktop, go onto your steam games tab and then right click on the game of the icon that you deleted and then click "Create Desktop Shortcut"

The problem should be fixed :D

I hope this helps you
