J.J. Abrams’ Bad Robot shingle, which has long sought to crack Stephen King’s “The Dark Tower” book series as a television series, no longer has the rights to one of the author’s biggest properties.

Bad Robot has returned the rights back to the best-selling author. Now Ron Howard, Brian Grazer and Akiva Goldsman are teaming up to tackle the fantasy Western.

Honestly, I would love to see the Dark Tower series turned into a massive set of movies like Lord of the Rings or Harry Potter, but I don't really think that Ron Howard has the directing chops to do it. J.J. Abrams probably could have done it, but I would like to see Peter Jackson or James Cameron take a shot at it.

Ron Howard???

It could be worse I guess, it could have been Uwe Boll...

Done properly it could be good, but Stephen King books have rarely translated well to into movies, especially long stories.

My daughter is a big Stephen King fan and has most of his books, she would much prefer to read one of his books than see it in film I think that sometimes it can lose a lot of it's impact if not done right.

The only complaint she has is that he's still writing them so she can't keep up with him, as fast as we buy another one he's got another on the shelves. :(

Ron Howard is a good director but not for this type of movie I believe. Peter Jackson would be an excellent choice.

The Dark Tower is a great series of books. I'm anxious to see it come to the big screen.

That's right, he's like a factory. Do you think he really writes every word of ALL those books? I quite liked IT but the ending was limp. However, it did make me want to jump on a chair and go "Eek!" if that helps?

The Dark Tower series were the books I put off reading for the longest time, just because I had heard that they were a lot different from his other books. Once I started though, I couldn't stop. It's truly an epic series and, if it does make it to the big screen, it needs to be done right. Huge budget, great actors etc.

By the way, it turns out that he's writing another DT book that takes place between Wizards and Glass (IV) and Wolves of the Calla (V) that deals with some of the side stories in W&G.
