Stereo Mix Doesn't Pick Up Computer Audio, Picks Up Mic

Hey everyone,

My computer's Stereo Mix option (Windows 7 Home Premium, 64bit, HP Pavilion p6330f) USED to be able to record my computer's audio fine, but now it no longer does that. It rather chooses to record exactly what my headset records. It may be worthy to note that I think it may have stopped working because of my new headset (Turtle Beach X11 series). However, going on this theory, I tried to disable the microphone and even use a different kind of microphone, but it still did not work.

As I mentioned, I've tried disabling the mic and have looked through the options available on Stereo Mix and just can't seem to figure out why this is happening. I just want to be able to play music back on my microphone when I'm talking to friends on Skype

Thanks in advance :)

Do you have a System Restore point that you can restore back to a date PRIOR to installing and using the new headset? since it apparently worked OK until you installed the headset. System Restore has an "undo" function if it doesn't change anything so you can get back to how it is now.

Also what program are you using to record audio? It should have an option to select the input, maybe that is all that is required?

No, no restore points that are available at that time

And I have yet to actually try recording it, but I have looked at the Recording devices menu and have seen that it only reacts to when I'm speaking, rather than when my computer is playing audio.

My other thought is that maybe it's because I have speakers plugged in? Does that matter? I'm going to try un-plugging them now and see if it works after that. It seems to me like I may have not had these speakers plugged into my computer a little while ago, but I can't quite remember.

Nevermind! Fixed! I just went to Properties, Listen, and told it to playback through "Speakers" (which are my external speakers I was talking about.) Now that it was listening to my speakers rather than my computer (which can't play audio) it works! Thank you for sparking my thoughts on that! :)
