That is correct. Have you reinstalled Realtek? If not give that a shot. Download the driver direct from www.realtek.com
Other than Realtek the only other thing software would be Windows. If not software that leaves the Realtek hardware (motherboard) as the problem.

I didn't see your post. Are you using the AC97 connector for the front panel audio connection to the motherboard, rather than the HD Audio?

AC97 is the older interface standard. It does not have some jack sensing that HDAudio has. I now wonder if there is a problem with the front panel in the case.
Have you tried with the front panel connector disconnected from the motherboard? and use HDAudio.

There may be a problem with my front panel on the case, there was a common problem with the fan control in the same area randomly stopping working, it must be related.
I plugged in my ear phones in the front and no sound came out and my speakers in the back didn't mute.

Unplug the HDAudio connector from the motherboard and try it. If it works OK, there is a problem in the case front panel.

Is this just looking at the front panel now ? If thats what all this is for now, its okay because I dont even use that.
But how could it possibly work if there isn't even 1 audio cable for the front panel connected?
I think we can just leave it how it is, sound is fine and stereomix is working again through a very weird option lol, thanks.
Though now when I try to open audacity it tells me:
It starts up so I check options and the audio devices section is just blank, nothing in drop downs, weird.

I'm lost at what all is going on. I would connect everything back to the point it works and as you say leave it. However, there is still a problem that's unresolved. Whether hardware or software.

haha yeah, changing that option in realtek to ac97 from hd audio made stereomix work again, but on the other hand it stopped audacity from recognising any sound devices at all.
EDIT
I changed it back to HD Audio in realtek manager and stereomix is still working, restarted pc and it stopped working, switched the option back to ac97 and stereomix is working again lol.
Downloaded the latest realtek hd audio driver from their website and now everything is working - had to switch the manager to ac97 again though for stereomix. Sorted.
THE ORIGINAL FIX
The problem lies in the ROG Realtek program. Change to ac97 in options.
