My trusty 10 year old HP 510 laptop which I use for travel started having a sticky space bar. I had to press it repeatedly to get some space.

I turned it upside down and a lot of crumbs and sand from the beach came out. I blew into it and more came out.

Likely a stuck crumb since now the sticky key shifted to next door "M" key.

I took it home and got out the most powerful vaccum we have. With power turned off and standing on floor (not carpet) gave it a good running over the keys.

Solved that crumby problem.

"surf and sand"?

Ironicially it isn't 10 years of use on the beach or circling the globe a half dozen times, but morning toast over the keyboard that causes the crumby problem.
