Still got problems

I've made quite a few topics but I never get many replies and they all just die out.

Anyway, My computer is acting VERY strange. It started out by just getting kinda slow, but got worse and worse. Now when I try and do the most basic task all my screens turn white for 30 seconds or so, then go back to windows and windows explorer isn't responded. I let it sit for a few more seconds then it finally does what I want it to.

I've run Virus scanners, CCleaner, Defraggelr, ChkDsk, Sfc Scannow, all that stuff and this computer just keeps getting worse and worse.

I've got an i7 but no cores are ever above 10%, or even 5%. The only time they are is when playing a Java game and the first core maxes out.

This is starting to get incredibly frustrating as you probably can image and I really hope to finally a solution this time.

This is my only fixed issue, which was a huge one with ATI and my PSU.

Could any of this be a sign of hard drive or video card failure?

Pull up the task manager use the processes task.
It sounds like something is eating up all the cpu time.

I would run HDD Diags
As well as Memory Diags

2. Does your system have on-board video?
Remove your video card and try that for a bit,, or try a different video card,, could be bad

3. Have Power Supply Tested that it is actually good.

Check all power connections on Motherboard and look at them closely for damage or corrosion or scortches.

Some other stuff that could be checked, that may or may not be of concern,, check all external cables are seated properly and remove all non-essential ones for a while.
Check that the monitor itself is not bad,, this can be difficult unfortunately.

If I had my hands on it, I would run PCDoctor or UltraX full system diags.

I would be hard pressed to call this a software/driver issue,, don't rule it out, but........

If you have another hard drive for installing Windows on as a test. I would recommend doing that first.

Check that all fans and heat sinks are working and seated properly.

Check Temps.

To me this says at least 4 things,,, Bad Hardware (1 or more of these - PSU, HDD, RAM, Video, Mobo) , Heat, faulty drivers, corrupted windows install. Int hat order of importance.


P.S. Try disconnecting 2 monitors....

Have you tried a repair install? If you have Windows 7 SP1 installed already, you'll need to slipstream the service pack into your install disc, and burn a new DVD.

It should not,, no. But then again, we are talking about Viruses.


Can you do another screen shot of Task Manager, but sort by CPU and make your task manager bigger to see everything, and show all process for all users?

I'm running MSE right now because I saw 3 trojans in my quarantine and removed them (absolutely no idea how those got there).

Isn't that a bit... excessive?

I mean that's like double what I would normally expect.

Sort by CPU so that the active processes are at the top.

It's changing a alot, always 1-4 things with CPU over 00.

Something is using CPU,, either a hidden process, or you did not click on "Show Processes from all users"

That could be you or the system users,

System
Local Service
Network Service
Other system type accounts.


This is still up in the air as to whether it is software or hardware related.

Ok,, lets dig deeper then,,,

Get ProcessExplorer

Extract and run it

Go to View and make sure the following are checked

Show Processes from all users
Show Fractional CPU
Show Unnamed Handles and Mappings

Watch this for a while and try to see what is using your CPU the most

WDFME (WD File Management Engine) is using 12-16 CPU.
That's my backup.. hmm. I sure wish Win7 Home Premium could wireless back up, then I could just remove that right now.

Can you disable WDFME for a bit?

Unless it is doing backups,,,,

Right Click it and select Suspend
Only if you believe it will not damage backups.

I could be wrong about hardware and That could be the culprit.

I would try using msconfig to kill all non-essential processes, then use your computer as you would normally for a day. If you don't have any problems I would then re-enable the processes a few at a time and also run the computer for a good while. If/When the problem returns you'll know it was in the last batch you re-enabled.

I suspended WDFME and I didnt see much a difference.
I removed it from my start up, and my start up faster and in the first few minutes my computer is running better. If WD was the cause, then I need a new network backup.. Any suggestions?

EDIT: It's less weird, but it's still acting strange.

My computer is being realllyy weird right now. It's taking me several minutes to get to seven forums and it takes 30+ seconds to launch a program. It seems the more I put it to sleep mode the stranger it acts.
