I am going nuts and have about decided to start all over with another new mother board. If I turn on my computer's power and push the front power button the computer starts and runs normally, no problems. If I click shut down, sleep or hold in power button the computer will seemingly shut down, every thing seemingly shuts down, fans stop lights on motherboard shut off except for the stand-by power button and the power button on the front of the case and it just dims. If I put it in sleep mode both the blue and yellow light are on but the machine will not restart util I shut off the power on the back of the maching until the blue or blue and yellow go completely off and turn the power back on. then it restarts and operates normally with no windows warning of unexpected shut down. I have unplugged everything on the computer including the mouse and keyboard, unplugged the hard drive and booted from the disc, checked and re-checked to connections to the board, unplugging everything on the board and starting over with the install, removed and replaced the memory and just used one stick instead of two. I installed every upgrade and driver for this thing, even the bios. I have researched the web and tried every suggestion, setting and idea mentioned, even the nutso ones. who knows, certainly not me for I am out of ideas. Software or hardware problem?I am out of ideas! In the middle of all this downloading and such I even got a ransom virus that I could not remove readily with system restore because it changed my date to the next day and removed all of my restore points. I had to go in and manually install a restore point and then run system restore. Does anyone have any other suggestions? I tried all of the previous ones kind members suggested! Almost make me want to but a new, already built computer with all of the software and bloat ware installed again whicj would be the first in may years.

How long? Seems most computers need 6 seconds but I give it a bit longer to truly shut the computer off without having to pull the power cord out or turning the surge protector off. If not doing it long enough pressing the On|Off button appears to simulate Sleep or Hibernate.

Just trying to figure out what you tried first, what I said about use of the power button or what Layback Bear suggested.

I built this thing he same as always. I installed everything on mother board and then installed the board into the case, I then followed the booklet that came with the board and connected all of the wires, turned it on and set it to boot with disc, Shut down and restarted computer and installed a legal OEM Windows 7 64 bit home premium and registered it. Got reply from windows good to go email and started installing printers and printer drivers, one on usb and one on wifi. Anytime installed anything that said I needed to restart computer to activate and finish installation, I said ok and the thing would shut down and restart nicely which it still does now I got all the updates from ASUS, many, many from windows and adi for the graphics card. Still, I had the shutdown and restart problem. I unplugged each periferal oe at a time and tested the shut dowm and restart. Each time I still had the problem Everything seems to shut down as it should, all lights out, all fans stopped etc. Even the blue light on the power button dims but it does not go off. I am unsure if this is even the problem but when I tuen the power switch on the back of the computer off and wait for the loght to fo off, the stand by light goes off also, and turn the power on to the computer the stand by light is on but the blue light on the front does not come on until I push it, It then lights and the computer starts again and runs as it should, no problems until I shut down again, the blue light dims but does not go fully off and pushing it again will not restart the computer.
