System:
OS: Windows 7pro 64bit
Mobo: GA-H67MA-D2H
CPU: i5 2500K
RAM: 2x4GB Gskill DDR3-1600
SSD: 120GB Intel 330? (~20GB free)
HDD: Samsung spinpoint 1TB
PSU: Seasonic G450

All of a sudden (I think after a Windows Update - it's my parent's computer)
it started getting a BSOD:
PAGE_FAULT_IN_NON_PAGED_AREA
STOP: 0x00000050 (0xFFFFF888057E9428, 0x0000000000000000, 0xFFFFF880057E680A, 0x0000000000000005)

I've tried to do a startup repair (at least 6 times ) one time actually worked but then I keep getting the same error. So...
I tried to boot to Safe Mode using F8 and I get this...

STOP: c000032a {Fatal System Error}
The Session Manager failed to create protected prefixes system process terminated unexpectedly with a status of 0xc000003a (0x00000000 0x00000000).
The system has been shut down.

I've tried pulling the HDD out, swapping RAM to no avail.

Any help would be appreciated.

I've even tried to repair BCD with "success"

Hi Frog,

Have you tried a system restore point?
I think you may be correct that it all happened after a Windows Update, this update was likely not installed properly.
0xc000003a = non-existing path.

If no restore point is available, or it doesn't work, you might want to look at running an SFC scan at boot SFC /SCANNOW : Run in Command Prompt at Boot.
Please note that SFC only validates protected files, not all files from Windows are protected so it's functionality is a little limited, but I suspect it'll help.

Thanks axe. SFC /Scannow reported errors but couldn't fix them. I was finally able to get to a restore point and even then it wouldn't hold. I ended up restoring from a backup from August - thankfully all data is kept on a separate partition and they haven't installed any new programs. Only issue was convincing Norton the license was current - tried a RNR, log in etc - only was was to remove and then do a separate install with the existing key. Just doing an image now and then I'll see what updates I can safely allow. I'll post back for everyone's benefit when done. This is the 3rd Windows 7 system that I've seen affected by the latest updates.

Edit:
I installed one at a time
2018-12 Security monthly quality rollup KB4471318
2018-12 Security and quality rollup for .net KB4471987
2018-12 Cumulative security for IE11 KB4483817

So far so good. Multiple restarts without any issues.
