I had a couple bsod's a few days ago, and am curious to no why. Everything is now stable and I have an idea what may have caused each one . Firstly I was putting the back panel of my case on and had to push quite hard for it to go, and bam blue screen. My boot drive ssd, is behind the motherboard tray, and cables are tight, I think with the panel being so tight, it pushed either of the sate cables causing it to happen.

Also when I re started the rig, I got a message saying that my over clock on my cpu ( 4.2 via oc genie )was now unstable, and was being reverted back to default settings.

Secondly, with my case the Phantom 630 the power, reset button, and fan controller, are on the metal chassis, and are little rubber buttons. And on the lid the actaul push button bit are plastic on a kind of catch. It pushes down and makes contact with the rubber button underneath. Well the plastic catch was stuck on the reset button, half way between, on and off.

Am I thinking these 2 issue were what could have caused the bsod. I have done the whole Google thing, but there is so much conflicting info, with too many opinions. So I thought I would ask in the one place I trust.I'm not too bothered now as the problem seems to be non existent now, more curious than any thing. Cheers guys.

Hi,

Well a STOP: F4 ususally indicates Hard drive/SSD issues.

I would check the Hard Drive for sure:

Run chkdsk /f/r in an elevated command prompt.

Click on the Start > Type in search cmd
Right click cmd at top and Run as Administrator
At the command prompt please type: chkdsk /f/r
(Note: there is a space between chkdsk and /f/r)

I would also run SFC to check the integrity of all Windows 7 system files:

Click on the Start > Type in search cmd
Right click cmd at top and Run as Administrator
Type SFC /scannow at the prompt
(Note: there is a space between SFC and /scannow)

Update the firmware on any SSD you have installed from your manufacturer's website.
Check all HDD/SSD cables and ensure they are seated correctly.
Masters/Slaves are set to correct configuration.
Check you have sufficient free space on your Drives (about 15% is advisable)

Your HDD manufacturer's website will usually have a diagnostics utility program that you
could use to download and test to see if the HDD may be dying or not.

   Note
Overclocking the system will make the system less stable, I would advise defaulting if issue persisits

If you upload your latest dump files I can take a look for you, as there maybe drivers causing issues:

You want to reconfigure windows to collect the correct info.
You want small memory dumps - "MiniDumps"

And here are the instructions for posting:

   Tip
Ensure you click the "GRAB ALL" button and then wait for each window to appear in turn and then click OK

Hope this helps.

Cheers

Dave

If your boot device is an SSD try updating the firmware .

Cheers guys.
I just tried to run check disk, but am getting the messge, cannot run because the volume is in use by another process. And SFC came back as fine. All ssd firmware is up to date. I really do think it was my fault when putting the back panel on , i used to much force and it pushed against the ssd sata connection. Cos since it happened all has been fine. Cheers guys, if it happens again I will post the findings, as per the forum way.
