Since a few days I get this message right after the BIOS splash screen and before the loading of Windows: "Remove disks or other media - Press any key to restart". If I then remove my USB stick or USB attached external disk and hit the space bar, the loading of Windows starts normally.
I have not touched the BIOS in any way or fashion and I am wondering what the possible cause of this behavior could be and how to fix it. I would hate to flash the BIOS (Dell) especially as I have the latest version. This system is less than 1 year old.

I'd start with double checking the boot order in the bios and make sure it is set to the hard drive as the first boot device, sounds like it is set to boot from USB first.

Thanks stormy. That was it. Why did I not think of that - LOL. I still wonder why the boot sequence was changed without any intervention. All I did was to reinstall Vista on this system (from the recovery partition). It worked fine the first few days but then all of a sudden the boot sequence was changed - strange.

Same thing has happened to me before with my USB stick.
Removing it resolved the issue, but I did notice my board changed the boot order to USB first for some strange reason ..
No clue why

Well it is a computer, and at times they do seem to have a mind of their own.

Well, after spending 50 years of my life with computers. I always thought these boxes were logical. But maybe there is a new woodoo spell going around - in Germany?
