Strange boot problem

I'll try to describe my problem, it looks weird to me, that's why I'm posting here, hoping someone will help me to figure it out.

1) When I reboot from Windows, everything works fine
2) If I shut down and then boot, everything works fine
3) If I shut down and turn my pc on after a few hours (i.e. off for the night, on in the morning), I get the following error :

The weird part is that if I press enter and reboot, Windows starts fine. Yes, it only happens after my pc has been off for a while and it starts fine after a first reboot or even if I turn it on, sit in the bios setup for a couple of minutes and then exit.

I updated all the drivers, I fixed the boot, I just can't get it.... it looks like it needs to heat up before it can boot, but it's not a car, it's a pc

Hi MdM,

It could be that the motherboard battery is failing and the settings in your BIOS are becoming corrupted. Try changing this battery, type CR2032.

Solved

Ok, I had to do a clean install because of many problems I had so here's what I did :

- Turned PC off and unplugged it
- Reset the CMOS with a screwdriver
- Changed values in the bios to suit my needs, the clock was reset to Jan 01 and I set the correct hour and date
- In the Windows Installation I deleted system partion and created a new one
- Installed Windows

Now even after being off for hours I'm not getting that error anymore and my Windows now is nice and smooth

Thanks for the help, I suppose the "reset CMOS" part is what fixed everything, plus a nice clean install that never hurts

Hi MdM,

I'm glad that you've solved your problem. Did you replace the battery as well, or did you just reset the CMOS? If you haven't replaced it and the same thing happens again, I would consider replacing it.

Hi, no I didn't replace it, I wanted to try only a reset first. If it happens again I know it's the battery and I'll replace it. Thanks again
