Under Windows 7 Pro I have two 500 Gb (same type od HDD) set in Raid 1 configuration (disc 0 and disc 1).
The mirroring has always worked ok.
Now I found that disc 1 got a volume letter (not the one it had originally C;) and stopped to mirror. It's still dinamic and I can browse inside with explorer.
I have not been able to understand why, neither found anything on the Net, about.
Do you suggest I reformat it and set as not allocated to start again a mirroring or there is some turnaround to recover the Raid 1 functionality ?

Not being able to find any solution I formatted the HDD and set again a Raid1.

If you are depending on only that RAID 1 to protect your data, I strongly recommend you take down the RAID, remove the second drive, use it externally to put your backups on, and keep it disconnected from the computer except when updating the backup.

RAID1 and backup

RAID1 setup is not intended to be a backup vehicle. Raid1 protects only from the failure of the main OS disk crash. I have many other systems to protect data etc with backups and similar staffs.
IT peoples know this very well. Thanks for your contribution. Would be nice if you could help to understand WHY the Raid1 configuration failure happened, as my first question ask.

Notice I said, "If you are depending on only that RAID 1 to protect your data". I encounter many people with the misconception that RAID is a backup, including some IT people. I'm glad you're not one of them.
