Howdy

I've just done a fresh Install win 7 on my system. Have done this many times. Windows disk first then motherboard disk and then graphic card disk.

All was going well until I rebooted after graphics disk. The system booted up and then got stuck on the welcome screen. It was just stuck there and won't load to the desktop.

I don't know what to do now

Thanks

The driver on your graphics card disk might be outdated and has problems with the latest Windows version/updates.

See if you can start Windows in Safe Mode using the Advanced Boot Options by tapping the F8 key when the PC is booting.
Here is a tutorial for this:
http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials/666-advanced-boot-options.html

If you can start Windows in Safe Mode, see if you can do a graphics driver rollback in Device Manager.
Then reboot and see if you can start Windows normally.

EDIT:
I see you marked this thread solved, how did you solve it ?

Ok that safe mode roll back worked. Booted to desktop. So my plan now is to install 223!! Windows Updates then install Gforce Experience and get my graphics drivers that way. And then install anti virus

Do u have any other advice?

Cheers

Hi,
Most of use do not install Gforce Experience and mostly only install these items with the custom install
nvidia installed stuff.JPG

There are essentially 3 updates needed for a clean install of windows that will get you updated through April of 2016

KB3020369 & KB3172605 & KB3125574 all can be downloaded from the M$ catalog using internet explorer
Microsoft Update Catalog

https://blogs.technet.microsoft.com...17/simplifying-updates-for-windows-7-and-8-1/

When manually installing updates you need to switch your update settings to Never check for updates and restart the machine first.

Also after restart verify the windows update service is stopped and set to Manual first or it will conflict with the stand alone installer.

I haven't used NVidea in years, so i can't comment on Gforce Experience.
I like to manually get drivers from the vendor, and decide if i want the latest before installing.
I always make a system image backup before updating drivers, or any major system changes.

For me Win 10 is worse with drivers, every "W10 new version" installs newer drivers that don't work for me.
I have to force install older drivers that work for me.

Ok I've downloaded and installed two out of those 3 updates manually. Now Windows says it wants to Install 216 updates.

If I'm not to use Gforce experience then how am I going to get up to date graphics drivers?

Hi,
The 3rd update contains many of the 200 updates in it and is more straight forward and faster to install than the separate updates you now show
I have it on my OneDrive too if you can't deal with the catalog for it,

I would do NVidia drivers manually
No one has ever died from being a month or 2 behind in NVidia drivers :)

Sorry I missed what u wrote about drivers. Hard to read all. Am doing this from Iphone I will check out nvidia web site.

How do u do a system image or what ever u called it. I remember a program I used years ago called Acronis drive image. Used that and burnt the whole system to DVDs . I'm bit sick of clean installs especially when I have problems. I think I'll check that out again. Do u know of any other good imaging programs?

Thanks

I used Acronis paid for many years and it always worked reliably for me.
I switched to Macrium Reflect free a year or two ago, and i like it better than Acronis.
Macrium Reflect Free

I would not use DVD's for the backup media.
Saving a backup image to a hard drive (or flash stick) is much faster, easier, and more reliable.

Restoring a system image backup can save you many hours/days rather than doing a clean install.

There are other (free) imaging programs that others recommend such as AOEMI, EaseUs, Paragon, etc.
For the one's i've tested, Macrium is the best for me.

Hi

I had a computer guy look at my system today. He thinks the graphic card is cactus.

When I think about it my problems started the day before last when I installed and tried to run Rise Of The Tomb Raider. I think this game requires a card of greater power than mine (gtx 550TI). Anyway after attempting to run this game the computer wouldn't boot to desktop.

Is it possible that the game fried my graphics card?

Also I'm getting this guy to install a Nvidia Gforce 750TI card and I'm also upping my ram to 12gig.

What do u think.

Hi,
The gtx 750ti shows a 300w or greater power supply is required
You don't show which one you have in your system spec's page.

Hi

I went through the paperwork that I got with the pc and it says I have a Coolmaster case with a 850W PSU. PSU is power supply right? Sounds a bit excessive?

Thanks

Hi,
Yes psu is power supply unit.
Not at all excessive no.

Just means you're shooting low in graphic's cards and have a lot of room to upgrade them in the future
A gtx980 recommended a 600w but you never want to be at that exact wattage.
Radeon R9 cards recommended a 750w :)

So is it possible that a high resource intensive game wrecked my low level graphics card?

Hi,
It is an old card so time could of just caught up with it they don't last forever
You really haven't said anything about any games you play or how long you've had the card or was it used when you bought it
Has it ever been cleaned of dust build up if it has a back plate/ behind the fan.....

Budget always rules the day but your power supply is a good thing wattage wise you have a lot of upgrade options for gpu's :)
