I just ran into a strange problem with accessing my office network with my laptop.

This laptop has been working fine for over a year and just started this strange behavior yesterday.

I can connect to the network fine both with cable and wireless. I am able to connect to the internet with both and all other computers on the network can see and access shared folders on the laptop.

However, the laptop cannot see any other computers on the network all of a sudden.

If it matters, the laptop is running Windows 7 Professional - 32 bit and the Server is running Server 2008. All other computers ion the network are also running Windows 7 - 32 bit.

Any suggestions?

Thanks

Hi Tim, had a similar problem on the other half's lappy yesterday evening. She noticed that it was "configuring updates" when she switched it on. Since then there was no connectivity available. Checked router and tried using ethernet..no good. Tonight I did a system restore to a point previous to yesterday. On completion all was back to normal so I'm putting it down to a duff update.

Neither the diagnostic wizard or the restore point worked.

The only restore point available was from 04/19/11 and I tried this but I believe the problem started on 04/17/11.

Any other suggestions appreciated!

I was able to solve my problem.

Interestingly enough, all I did was disable my active network connection and re-enable it. It immediately started working again and has survived several reboots.

Makes no sense to me...

I would have never tried this unless I saw the recommendation from a Google search.

Maybe this will help someone out in the future.
