Strange resolution bug in 7100 x64 (monitor?)

First off, hi everyone. I'm new but I'm glad to be here.

Anyway, this is my issue. Whenever I turn on my monitor, I find my resolution gets changed to 1280x1024 instead of my native 1440x900. This happened with the latest nVidia driver, the older nVidia drivers, and the built-in Microsoft driver. I couldn't get my native resolution back unless I rebooted the machine entirely. This bug has gotten under my skin to the point where I went back to using Vista, which I didn't want since despite that issue, Windows 7 was a treat to use. Does anybody know why this keeps happening? My video card is an eVGA GeForce 9800GTX+ and my monitor is a Gateway 19 inch FPD1975WH if that helps. Thanks, everybody.

Did you set the resolution from the Windows settings or the nVidia control panel?

Both. It doesn't seem to matter either way, and once the resolution is messed up after turning on the monitor, 1440x900 isn't even a listed option for a resolution, whether it's the Windows settings or the nVidia Control Panel. I have to reboot to get it back.

EDIT: I'm downloading 7127 as I type this. I doubt it'll make much difference but I've read of other people's random quirks being fixed with this build so I'll give it a try. I like Vista and all but 7 is such a breath of fresh air by comparison, save for this one bug.

So I've installed build 7127. Unfortunately, the bug is still present. The only things I've noticed are when I'm in Appearance and Personalization > Display > Screen Resolution. When the monitor is on the correct resolution, the monitor is listed properly (FPD1975W) under Display. But when I turn the monitor off and on, and the resolution is messed up, it's listed as "Generic non-PnP monitor". If I have Device Manager open with the normal resolution, it says "Generic PnP monitor", but with the screwed up resolution, it says "Generic non-PnP monitor" as well. I don't know if this helps any but it's the only consistency I've noticed with this bug. I googled Generic non-PnP monitor but nothing helpful really came up.

Try installing the drivers for your monitor.

What happens if you don't power off the monitor, and just let it go to powersave?

I don't think I have actually turned off a monitor in years.

It must be sending the wrong info to the video card when it powers up cold.

There is a way to set the display settings in the registry, but the link eludes me right now.
