Strange shadows on screen

Suddenly I am seeing a "shadow" effect to the right of text, icons, heading everything on the screenwhether it is showing the desktop, Browser any programs. Did have an Aero theme running but have changed this to standard windows theme. Same problem. Hope you cann see the effect on this screenshot. The shadow is on the message box as I type!

I'm not sure I see anything there John. Even a image editing software (Paint.NET) doesn't see it. Its the same white all around.

Maybe you need to get your eyes checked

Well I really think I am goibg dippy. On my screen the shadows are very pronounced. On the desktop the shadow against the dark blue is pale whereas against the light blue section in is dark. Against a black background, my pictire viewer for example it is almost white but even putting a snippet file onto a memory stick and putting that in my other XP machine I can't see the shadow. It must be something specific in the monitor though if i take a screenshot one would think that would reproduce on another complaetely independent PC.
Will investigate the monitor later. Haven't tried switching the monitor so will try that first when i return from dog walking. wiil report back later!

Seriously though, it is getting worse by the minute, think I will shut down while I'm out just in case the screen is going duff!

OK Here's the latest. I connected the problem screen to my laptop and there were no shaows. So the monitor is OK. Must be the PC. So connected a spare monitor to the PC. No shadows. So its not the PC either. Must be gremlins, (there are lots of those in Cornwall)
Reconnected original monitor back to PC. Guess what, No Shadows. So I guess it must have been a slight problem with the cable although I always make sure the screws are finger tight.
Before doing any of the above I photographed the actual screen. Always a bit difficult to get a decent image of a live screen but the attached screen shot should show the shadow of the icon and the shadows of the two lines of text. You do need to click it for full size to see it properly:

I suppose the reason the snippets didn't show the shadows is because it records whats coming to the monitor from the graphics card and this shadow effect was caused, I think, by the faulty connection of the monitor. Anyway all is well, sanity is restored to as near as normal in the Mitchell household, which does at times leave a little to be desired and I haven't got the expense of a new monitor.

Looked at the image but didn;t read the text. Glad it's sorted. I just had a big expensive LCD monitor go out on me in a similar way

Just goes to show, it's often the simple things that are easily overlooked that are the culprits. In this case, a loose monitor cable connection.

Remember that when talking about apparent monitor faults and you wish to include a screenshot showing the problem, then take one with a digital camera and upload the image from that. Unfortunately, capturing the screen that you are seeing from the computer itself will not show any monitor defects.

I was having the same problem the problem is that one of the chords on the monitor isn't connected properly so try to find which one isn't "in" the slot properly.

I am seeing the same thing happening on a computer I am using. Happens on desktop, all program - shadow effect on icons, mouse cursor and within all software programs. Can't get rid of it
