I just updated the drivers of my GTX 760, to version 388.59. But after updating and restarting my PC, I see an important update in windows update "NVIDIA - Display - 10/27/2017 12:00:00 AM - 23.21.13.8813".

Does anyone know why this update is offered when I downloaded and updated the latest version available on the Nvidia website?

Thanks in advance for any clarification.

I had seen the "important" update for nVidia 388.13 myself for my GTX 1050ti, and decided to double-check the nVidia site, where I found 388.59 just recently released. I decided to install this latest retail driver (as you did), expecting the WU driver to then disappear and no longer be in the "important" list following my re-boot after installing the new graphics driver. It did not, but still showed the 388.13 as "important" (as it did for you). Obviously this isn't right any longer, since the now-installed driver is 388.59. But maybe once it gets installed in the "important" list it cannot be self-deleted if conditions change?? Don't know.

Anyway, I simply un-checked it on the WU "important" updates, and then right-clicked and selected "hide", so as not to be bothered again. It's gone now and no longer appears.

NOTE: this latest 388.59 driver creates a System Tray (notification area) icon for "nVidia Settings" (i.e. nVidia Control Panel), in addition to having nVidia Control Panel appear on the right-click context menu for Desktop. You can "exit" the System Tray object if you want, which appears to be the only way to prevent its appearance as it doesn't show up in MSCONFIG startup list but must simply be automatically started by the driver at boot time).

I see Windows updates related to the hardware in my system, including nVidia and I don't install them. I get the drivers from my hardware manufacturers website. I installed some hardware driver from Windows Update and it broke my PC, forgot which one it was.

Uninstall the drivers with the DDU tool and reinstall them and the windows update update disappeared.

I found this update strange, because at first it was assumed that I was already installing the latest version and second, the driver updates appeared as optional, not as important previously.
