Strange update.

As stated earlier, one update is for Intels Extreme Tuning Utility program, something that`s been around for awhile already, and really should not even be showing up in windows update.

I installed that program a long time ago and found it fairly useless.

I`m experimenting with the second update (no description given for it) way to go MS

I`ll keep everyone posted if there are any problems.

Yea, just got those 2 again. Clicked hide on the first one a few weeks ago.

Another one shows up with a friend.

Also noticing there are less updates in general lately, even for Security Essentials. I'm guessing this is normal.

I got the same update for a Gen-2 i7-2600 Processor on a DH67BL (LGA1155) Intel board using on-board graphics (HD 200). The version number is well above the last Intel update for my board and suspect it's for a Gen-3 or Gen-4 processor.

I hid the update until better info is given. Being the holidays, MS may have killed the link above. I would NOT install the update until MS publishes more information on the update.

If it ain't broke, don't fix it!

That's weird... the link is still alive for me. The driver files installed are

C:\Windows\system32\DRIVERS\ICCWDT.sys

and

I received another Intel update from MS again this morning. I didn't take much notice of the details & just hid it.

We seem to be getting peppered with useless Intel updates from MS, I wonder what is going on.

So when your system crashes with bad updates, you'll be so fed up that you'll go out and buy a new PC with W10 preinstalled.

That error I'm getting on the Microsoft Update Catalog site must be due to something MS is trying to do on the page that I may have blocked. I'm not changing my security settings for any Interweb page. I don't care who it is but especially MS.

Yea win-10 has plenty of updates that come with no warning so that will be a great compromise

According to Intel, they haven't issued any updates/drivers for my motherboard since 2014 (when support ended) so I don't know what MS is trying to do with these updates labeled "Intel". Perhaps they're trying to prep systems for another run at shoving W10 down our throats.

I just got another small update this morning claiming to be an "Intel" update.

I've been getting the Intel driver updates, which I've hidden, on my 8.1's but I've yet to receive anything on the 7's.

Unrelated to the thread subject, but I noticed that I didn't get this month's January preview rollups that comes out on the third Tuesday of each month. Has anyone noticed that?

I seem to vaguely recall some new changes beginning of next year being mentioned a few months ago.

The only thing I've noticed is a Intel usb 8/19/2016 published 12/20/16 10.1.2.80 showed up it is under optional so link more information goes nowhere and there for the update does too

Soon after another one shows up intel system 8/19/16 10.1.1.38 published yesterday

Here's two more:
Has anybody fired off an email to Intel or Microsoft asking what exactly these updates are? They'll probably just say that you should install them to "enhance your computing experience" or words to that effect.

I found 3 Intel updates in Windows 7 updates.
One for the chip set
One for the usb
One for a Intel NUC

Every sense they made wacky weed legal on the left coast Window 7 updates are crazy.

FWIW, the Intel Watchdog Timer driver file (ICCWDT.sys) does have a digital sha1 signature from Intel in it. It was signed on 03/13/2016 12:44:37 so unless there's some valid reason to not trust driver files signed by mother Intel anymore I am deciding to keep it installed on my Asus laptop because I think the Watchdog is a very good boy.

Ya, there`s hardly anything but MSE updates anymore, it`s great.

I got that same Intel System update again yesterday, just hid it.

carwiz, when that day arrives you just use your W7 key and install 10, free, no need to buy anything.

Or, I surely hope that you at least took advantage of the free update so you have a W10 license, then went back to W7

Windows 7 will be fine, there`s too much drama being brought up about it again.
