I saw on the tv commercials that you can wirelessly stream video to your tv and I just wanted to know how to do this.
I have searched the net for an answer and can`t find any info on this topic.

I know how to setup a network, but I don`t know how to setup my tv to recieve wireless signals.
If I need an extender then I MIGHT AS WELL CONNECT MY PC TO MY TV.
I am goig to get a little sarcastic hereand wonder if this is just a sales pitch for win 7,because the comercial doesn`t say anything about any other hardware needed to do this. The way I understood it was that it was just a push button thing.
If I need some other hardware then what do I need?

I see now.I do need more hardware and that is the answer that I was looking for.
Thanks for your time and effort derikimo.I just wish that the commercial had made this apparent so there would not be any confusion on my part.

You're Welcome,
It does appear much easier in the commercial, but that can be said about alot of products.
There always seems to be "additional equiptment required" or " Your experience may vary" , of course that part is usually in fine print or almost invisible to see but that is how the market works.

Well if you need anything else feel free to come on back and ask.:)

Im in the same situation as you, the commercial made it sound like this was a basic feature, and the main reason I got 7.
If you do need additional hardware do you mind sharing the requirements with me, as im trying to do a wireless setup as well.
Also I havent looked into it yet but I think there is a way you can do it with a Ps3 or Xbox.

Now that would be a nice "invention" if your TV could actually connect to the Internet and then be able to dl media. Hmm(d), that might be something to drink to, lolI am sure someone some where is in their basement at this very moment trying to figure a way to implement some sort of gadget that could either connect to your TV, or it be already built in, so that it could connect to the Internet. "It lives, it lives hahahahahaha:devil2:

I am also running a quasar gamatron flux capacitor with twin pulse tronic phasers......jk, I have no such stuff.
You know what I just gave up with it, Im using my PS3 to watch/listen/view my video/music/pictures. The best part is that you don't need 7 to do this, my next computer will be a Mac.

The commercial makes it plain in the fine fine print (heh) that some sort of an an Intel TV adapter is required to make this work. It has a specific name which I don't rememebr. Check out the text on the screen next time the ad comes up... says something like "Intel <name> hardware required".

Sometimes possible without extra hardware

If your TV supports DLNA, and has a wireless LAN connection (like my Samsung LE46B750 LCD TV), then wireless streaming of video from a Windows 7 PC to the TV is possible without extra hardware (a.k.a. Windows 7 "Stream to" feature).

Several TV's like mine are also capable of connecting to the internet directly, for example with a dedicated built-in Youtube client. Browsing the internet with a internet explorer is not common afaik.

Using a Windows Media Extender makes streaming videos possible also (but only from a mediacenter pc), but mostly serves another purpose: that of leveraging the use of a windows mediacenter pc already connected to the main tv to other rooms like the bedroom.

For what it's worth . . . . .

In my experiments with trying to stream HD over a wireless connection - it simply doesn't work well enough to be watchable. That is true for 1080i and definitely 1080p. I did have some success with 720p over wireless, though it was not consistent enough. My wireless gear is decent. My wireless router is a D-Link DIR655 N Router. Even with a reported 270 Mbps wireless connection there would be jerking and drop-outs. My theory is that in spite of setting my router to find an unoccupied channel, which it does, there is so much interference from nearby sources, that the actual connect speed is more like 20-40 Mbps. When I do a WiFi scan, I get about a dozen responses. It seems my neighbors are all pretty high tech.

My solution was to replace my two main wireless links with Motorola MOCA boxes off eBay that were surplus from FIOS installations. I get a solid and true 100 Mbps connection and can stream anything I want at any speed. I even tried four simultaneous HD recordings coming from downstairs to my mid-level home office HTPC without a single hiccup.

Bye.
