Hi all,

I have a Dell Studio XPS 1640.
It's Original OS was Vista 64 bit, when I bought it.
Now it is about 1 year that I Installed Windows 7, 64 bit (Ultimate Edition).
With Vista I didn't have any problem, but with seven, I have this problem:
My laptop turn on automatically!
When I hibernate, it always wake up!
I checked BIOS, The wake up option is disable.
Whit Shut down, this problem doesn't occur.
I don't think my programs, occasion this problem.
I'm really confused!

If any one can help me pls?

Best regards,
Nima

Could be an issue with your LAN cards power management features

To turn power management features on or off
  1. Open Network and Sharing Center (click the Start button, type Network and Sharing in the Start Search box, and press Enter).
  2. Click the Change adapter settings link in the upper left of the navigation pane.
  3. Right click the network connection you want to enable/disable power management support on and click Properties.
  4. Click Configure.
  5. On the Power Management tab, check or clear the Allow the computer to turn off this device to save power check box.
    • When checked, power management is enabled on the network adapter.
    • When cleared, power management is disabled on the network adapter.
  6. You can enable Wake on LAN for all wake methods or just enable magic packet WoL:
    • To enable Wake on LAN for all methods, check the Allow this device to wake the computer check box.
    • To enable Wake on LAN for magic packet only, check the Allow this device to wake the computer check box and then check Only allow a magic packet to wake the computer check box.

Thanks dear mgorman87,

"Allow the computer to turn off this device to save power" is checked. I cleared it.

After some days, I will inform that if my laptop waked up again or no.

Thanks again my friend.

Best regards,
Nima

You want to leave it checked. Unchecking it is preventing it from now turning off which could prevent your laptop from sleeping on top of whatever else is preventing it from sleeping

If you have it checked it allows the device to turn off. Sometimes, when trying to hibernate/sleep, you will have a device that still stays powered on, which prevents the computer from sleeping. You want to enable to option to allow the device to turn off so the computer can sleep.

Did you run the command immediately after the computer woke up on its own? Thats the only way to do it. If you did, the mouse seems to be responsible. Do you use an external mouse?

Oh! I think mouse was the problem really!
After your useful post and do command, in device manager, I looked power management option for mouse, and saw that "Allow this device to wake the computer" is checked!!
About nightly my computer woke up! Now, if for 2-3 days don't automatically wake up, meaning mouse was the cause of problem.
Thanks a lot bill, I hope this problem be resolved.

I will post here the result.
Thanks again.
