Studio XPS 8100 (Late 2009) New Video Card needed

I'm not that computer savvy, but could replace a video card if required. I have had Dell replace the current card about four times, but it is now out of warranty and want to put something new in, not a refurbished model. It is a:

I would like to know of an upgrade or suitable replacement video card. The current one is making some seriously bad noises consistent with the noises which occurred prior to previous cards giving up....

Hi, welcome to the forum

what is your budget? you most likely will need a new power supply also. it's possible the power supply you have in their might be the cause of the video cards to fail.

Damn, I thought it was just the silly fan on the refurbished card, never thought for a minute that the power supply could make a fan grind... I wouldn't want to spend too much, and not really interested in improving performance, just reliability and getting rid of the whirring sound of the fan on the card.

so it just the fan making grinding noise. if making grinding noise probably bad bearings in the fan. so not having any graphic issues? how much do you want to spend on a card?

Graphics are fine, its definitely the fan. I'd replace the fan if it was easy or spend up to maybe $100 I guess.

Will any video card fit? I thought there would be some special 'things' I needed to look for to ensure it was compatible?

Any video cards is compatible as long has you have a PCI Express x16 Slot in your motherboard and the card fits in the case (For high end video cards) But if you decided to go on a newer video card I'll suggest this one:

so look for a PCIe x16
