Greetings all,

Reluctantly, I've returned to see if I can get some great minds to help me out here.

I've got an unusual problem and I've tried just about everything there is to fix this.

I have a laptop AND a desktop both running Windows 7 Ultimate. The laptop used to be able to connect to the network drive on the desktop, but now I am getting:

Error code 0x80070035 The network path cannot be found.

The desktop can access all shared files on the laptop. The laptop can ping the desktop by its network name and IP address just fine, but it cannot access the shared drive.

Both computers are running Avast and I've tried to disable Avast and also the firewall, but I'm thinking this is not the problem because I can ping the desktop.

I've triple checked all network protocols, checked the network stack on both machines. There's nothing missing or out of place.

Anyone have any idea why the network drive is suddenly not accessible from the laptop? I'm stumped and have tried everything.

Thanks in advance for any help.

You may need to use the Security tab to give access to the drive for Everyone "picture below".

If Avast is causing the problem you sometimes need to uninstall the A/V software to get it working again.

Have you uninstalled Avast on both computers, rebooted, and checked to see if you still have network access problems?

Hi

I have uninstalled Avast on the Desktop computer because it is the problem target. The desktop can reach the laptop and share it's files fine and the laptop can ping the desktop network name and IP address with no problems. The laptop just cannot map the network drive. The minute I try to map it I get that error mentioned above. Really actually this make no sense. If I had Norton that would be the problem :D but in this case I've never had a problem with Avast.

I actually think I know what could be causing this weird problem. One of the hard drives in the computer went bad, and I had my USB thumb drive inserted at the time and so it had a drive letter assigned. When I replaced the hard drive, the drive letter changed. Is this an ah ha moment for anyone?

I'm willing to bet this is going to be some registry fix.

Thanks guys for all your help.

Hello,

Can we please see the ipconfig /all of the desktop and laptop for comparison?
Click on Start => in search box type cmd press enter. From the black screen, type the word ipconfig /all and press enter. Right click on the black screen or Command prompt then choose Select All and Paste the results here.

On both computers you should also have an Identical UserName and Passwords.

Also, instead of mapping drives, have you tried some workaround?
Click on start and type \\IPAddress\sharedfolder or shared drive or instead of IP Address of the computer it can be \\computername\shared drive or shared folder.

Tunnel Adapters gone wild on Windows 7

Thanks for your reply. First thing I did was run an ipconfig /all command to get the IP address from the laptop that cannot reach the desktop computer. I was surprised to find that there is 270+ Disconnected 6to4 Tunnel adapters....yeah you read right. There is a minimum of 270 of these. I've got the 6to4 Adapter removal tool working right now to remove all these and then I'll reboot and see if I can get an IP address.

I have never seen so many tunnel devices but I can tell you there wasn't this many the other day when I checked the IP :p

Something happened that made this thing go berserk. I'll let you know what happens when it removed them all....so far 30 minutes to remove them :D

Those extra tunnel adaptors are usually caused by using an incorrect driver, you need to update your network driver to fix that problem. It happens all the time. Getting rid of those 6 to4 tunnel adaptors will no doubt fix the problem but it may come back unless you update the driver.

Here is a link to the removel tool but it look like you found it already? Not sure because this tool should save you from having to remove them all manually.
Just use Tunnel Adapter – Microsoft 6to4 adapter Remover

Not an incorrect driver

After removing all the 270+ tunnel adapters, the laptop was again able to reach the desktop shared drives.

I want to mention though that the driver is not incorrect. In fact it doesn't have anything to do with the driver. It's a Windows 7 problem. I've looked around, done my research, and this has happened to a lot of other users. While Windows 7 installation does install "generic" drivers for your hardware, I verified that it had installed the correct driver for the hardware. So this is not what has caused the addition of all these tunnel adapters.

Thanks everyone for your help and I hope this post will help someone else that had the same problem.

I've fixed this problem countless times and the only way to keep the problem from re-occuring is to find a better driver. It's not a Windows 7 problem at all, it's a driver problem. Even the auto drivers have their flaws. Those are just drivers that the manufacture sent to Msoft for auto install, many of them are far from perfect.

It's best to go to the manufacture's site for the latest drivers. This has been confirmed to be perminately fixed with a driver update on countless occasions.
