I have just changed my computer case for a new one and have a problem.
All cables have been checked for looseness.
Only one sata drive is connected.
Memory works fine (checked with fresh memory)
Post screen fine.
goes into install windows then
When it starts the 'starting windows' screen it stalls.
Absolutely no movement from this screen.
Speaker gives a light buzzing sound now and again...
your help will be appreciated...
Runckle......

Try to run the start up repair, it should come up when you restart and the pc notices it can't start up normally. The repair will help and most likely solve it, if not do a reinstall from the disk. Hopefull some of the tecs here can give a better answer.

Thanks for that Alsisgevat but, I am in the install process or 'startup repair' process but cannot get any further than the 'starting windows' screen.

Oh and it can also be just a stupid usb device, remove all the flash drives or memory reader and so on you have in the pc usb(not keyboard or mouse) this was my problem once, turns out my pc did not like starting up with my flash disk in.

Runckle, it could also be a bad win7 disk. What kind of disk is this- home made or ready made? You could try installing from a usb drive.

If you have an XP or Vista disk or any kind of bootable disk you can check.

Not the install disc.

Hi Bill...
No it's a brand new disc.
That's not the problem here though.
What happens is when I want to boot my OS it goes straight to system recovery.
Then it gets as far as the 'Starting windows' screen and stalls.
This happens with or without the disc.
Thanks again...

I think you should run hard drive diagnostics. You have a WD, download the diagnostic from here.

HD Diagnostic

You can also run chkdsk. But what about F8, can you get into safe mode?

When you get to system recovery, what option do you choose?

Sorry Bill
I can't get to recovery stage. That is next after 'starting windows' screen.
I think i'll try and remove everyting and see what happens...

To get into advanced boot options, you need to tap F8 right after restart and all this is before the spalsh screen.

Recheck everything, and make sure that it is installed correctly in the case and that you haven't got a motherboard standoff where you shouldn't. Double check the cable connections in case they might be loose.

Once you have done that, try again. If that doesn't work, make sure that everything is detected correctly in the BIOS. Try again.

In order to get to the advanced options, I usually keep tapping the appropriate key (F8) about 3 x per second as soon as I power up.

Hi Dwarf...
I will now check everything once more including BIOS...
Perhaps the 'BIOS' maybe the problem...
