I just wanted to ask some stupid quistions that most people probably allready know, but i don't,so please don't judge...:-) and thanx to all that answer.

1. What does the "beta" mean at the end of the new nvidia driver (270 beta). And is it safe to install it?
2. How hot can a graphics card run(the super high end ones)
3. When you sli,how do you prevent the cards from over heating(cus as far as i can tell,2 cards running at say 85c put closely together are supposed to allmost double the heat?)
4. Is it better to sli two of the same cards,or to buy an all-ready duelcard?
5.When will there be like a usb 3, 6gig/s ssd?If one allready exists then how much are they and are they worth it(ssd vs normal hard drive)

Thanx!

Beta means its a work in progress...unfinished,generally safe to install but your a test rat for Nvidia..better to use the WHQL drivers as they are normally stable/bug free drivers.

I've had mine running at 85 underload..lower is of course way better...I think thats as about as hi as you want to push them tho..GPU's as I understand it are glued on and if they get to hot they can sorta drop off...bricked card...there is software you can use to monitor temps and will allow you to set a shut down if temps go to hi...don't quote me tho as I don't use them...MSI's Afterburner is a popular program for O/C and Overvolting your card (as long as your motherboard supports voltage increases..hi end Gigabyte ASUS boards e.g do generally)

You basically don't...you can install a hi cfm fan in the case side...best way is to fit Reference cards and watercool them..expensive tho and more so if you upgrade your cards every new release.

Given the heat issues a dual gpu is probably a better option.

USB 3 capable motherboards are already here...60Gb SSD's are also..OCZ Vertex 2 are about $240 AU...SSD's are way faster than a mech HDD..that said most ppl including myself use them for the OS only and use mech drives to install programs games etc on.

Thanx!

I can answer question 1 and 5

1. What does the "beta" mean at the end of the new nvidia driver (270 beta). And is it safe to install it?

beta means that the driver is not yet passed WHQL (Windows Hardware Quality Labs) testing yet and may still have bugs to work out, like any beta software.

5.When will there be like a usb 3, 6gig/s ssd?If one allready exists then how much are they and are they worth it(ssd vs normal hard drive)

They already exist I own a USB 3 Western Digital external drive that fits into the Blue colored USB ports at the back of my computer. (If your motherboard supports USB 3 than it will have these Blue ports)

The 6Gb/s SSD's and are available now. I have the Intel SSD 510 Series SATA III Solid State Drive which transfers data at 6Gb/s

Edit: took 2 long to post simmo beat me

Your welcome, By reading the Tutorial section and following other sections of the forum for anything that interests me or want to learn has helped me a great deal.

A good example would be that I built my first computer gleaning the vast knowledge of this forum.

Before I joined Seven Forums I literally knew nothing about computer hardware or operating system maintenance.

1. Beta means it is unrealeased, but Nvidia is giving it away early for people who want to test it out and give back some feedback about it.

2. AMD (don't know about Nvidia) recommends the maximum to be 101 Celsius. (about 210 Fahrenheit)

3. Get a card with a fan, or heatsink.

4. 2 of the same cards in my opinion. Better performance, and if 1 breaks, you will always have the other one.

5. Yes, there is USB 3.0. But hardly any devices actually support it as of now. And many computers don't even have it yet. In my opinion, I don't care/will never care about SSD hard drives. All they do is make your computer faster by what, 3 seconds? C'mon, I can wait that much. SSD drives might be the better choice if you want a portable hard drive because they are also more durable, since the files are not stored on a "CD", but instead sticks of memory.

Interresting, thanx linux. I have 1 last quistion for every one. I want 2 screens for my computer, 1 is a lcd and the other a led and both different brands, both are 1080p and both 2ms responce. But i read on the internet that your graphics card runs at full when you have two screens, how can i prevent this or have 2 screens without the card running at full? Oh and i dont want to plat a game on both, i just want to play games on the one.and music,or programs ext. on the other. So the one should have the desktop and so on,the other just the wallpaper,no icons or such

To avoid the full 3D clocks, they must both be the same resolution. LCD/LED mix shouldn't matter.

Cards have different power states and clock speeds (2D/3D) depending on the required load. When in 2D clock speeds, or idle state, this state also uses less voltage. (why it runs cooler)

The 'full speed' issue is caused because the card does not downclock to 2D clock speeds/idle state and stays at full 3D clock speeds and higher voltage (why it runs hotter.)

I was initially under the impression that the same resolution was all that mattered. So I've been doing a bit more research about this and I'm not sure if just having the same resolution is enough:

If you run two different monitors at the same resolution it won't keep the video card at idle as each monitor has different internal timings and the card will run at full load. This is something we think is interesting and most people still don't know about it!
From here:

So it's quite possible that despite both monitors using the same resolution, the full speed issue may still be present
